Re: making custom .img's

But only if the empty part of the partition and the empty part of the card (unpartitioned space) is empty - ie filled with 0's or 1's - if it has random left over data on it that isn't so compressible then it won't compress as much as you'd expect.

Re: Recording a screencast of the RasPi

If anyone can please suggest a Mac or Linux application capable of capturing a VNC session (preferably at 1280x720) to a movie file - and is preferably reasonably cheap or free! - I'd be most grateful. Mac = QuickTime Player - File >> New Screen Recording You'll have to crop it down afterwards - us...

It's got the startup bit but not the main set of files needed to go all the way.

When I started in computing we didn't worry about the difference between Mega Bits and Mega Bytes - mostly we were counting in Kilo Bytes and knew the location of each and every one and it's purpose :D

From discussions on import duties littered across the board, I very much doubt the Chinese can get them to you for much less than the going rate. And as they'd have to get the chips from Broadcom who I gather are working flat out to make enough for RS/Farnell, I doubt the Chinese would get them to y...

Any normal, uncomplicated USB keyboard will be fine. Ones with flashing lights or LCD displays may draw too much power. Simpler is better.

If you live in the US you will not be charged international delivery if you order from your local RS subsidiary called Allied.

Ok, this afternoon im going to put a (licenced) windows 2000 pro image on a bootable 8gb sd card and try to boot up my Raspi with it for a work project . What problems am I likely to encounter, and how can I work around them.? As long as you are technically competent to do the copy to the SD Card I...

Re: squeeze more RAM out of the GPU

I think I recall dom (who KNOWS about such things, being one of the coders of the GPU AFAIK), that the GPU needs a minimum of 32Mb to run, so the 224 version is the best you can get. I've not seen this as a particular restriction for a headless server - 224Mb should be more than enough in proportion...

Re: Given RS Code

As RS make a big deal about saying that the code is tied to the email address, I guess it will go to the original owner of the code. As you only get one order confirmation email and one shipping email it shouldn't be so hard for them to pass them on. Or you could see if you can get the email address...

Some people have received theirs and they ordered on 3rd May..... These are people that registered with RS at or around 6am on the 29th and have subsequently then been sent an order code about TWO MONTHS LATER. No one 'just ordered' one on the 3rd of May, they've been in a queue. I registered on th...

The Debian image is as it was on the date on the file - 19th April - it doesn't have updates since that date. So, at the command prompt, type: sudo apt-get update which downloads the list of packages & version numbers, then sudo apt-get upgrade which upgrades all the software on your card to the lat...

Now a quick question: I have Chromium loaded as my browser, but the CPU usage is still maxing out even as I type this reply.
