Re: Shouldn't Rpi developers be payed by the Foundation?

Maybe some resources should be allocated to people working on the operating system, compiling Chromium and working on accelerated Xorg. Just a thought! Again, I have no idea ho the foundation's money is being spent. This type of feedback would probably best be directed towards one of the more gener...

Re: Games for raspbian

Many games. Pretty much everything supported in Debian Wheezy. Just be aware that a number of the graphical games are intended to run on faster desktop systems and may perform poorly on the Raspberry Pi. Perhaps others will chime in with specific game recommendations.

Are unofficial ports allowed to be added to here: http://www.debian.org/MailingLists/subscribe#ports - I thought it might assist getting the list some visibility to the Debian crowd .... ? I'll bounce this off plugwash as he's a Debian developer. I think I know what the answer will be, but it won't...

Re: Debian Hard Float (armhf) for RPi

How can I make my own base rootfs with my own compiler configuration? You wrote here that you compile every single package from start. I'm sorry, I don't quite follow what your question is. Debootstrap is a Debian tool that works within Raspbian that can be used to create an initial root file syste...

I haven't had a chance to work with XBMC since putting together the original instructions on our Wiki: http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianXBMC Since then it seems like a LOT of knowledge has since been gathered in this thread that can greatly improve those build instructions. Things such as removing th...

Re: Update confusion

Chris, using Raspbian repositories to upgrade a Debian Wheezy armel system won't work and in fact could render the system unbootable. This is because Debian Wheezy armel and Debian Wheezy armhf are considered two different architectures. The Raspbian FAQ explains this: http://www.raspbian.org/Raspbi...

Re: Java on Raspbian

As I don't fully understand the fine points of compilation for soft/hard FP, I have to ask: since the Debian release runs the OracleJRE flawlessly, isn't it possible to make Raspbian run it as well? Does the kernel boot the CPU into a fundamentally different mode that it cannot accept the soft FP i...

Re: Raspbian vs Wheezy (beta) Mono support

How come Mono works fine in Debian Wheezy beta, but not in Raspbian Wheezy beta? A more accurate question would be: "How come Mono works fine in Debian Wheezy armel (soft float ABI), but not in Debian Wheezy armhf (hard float ABI)?" As jui-feng indicates, this is primarily an issue with the way tha...

Re: Java on Raspbian

How do you determine if a binary has armv7 code lurking in it? We have scripts that run 'readelf -A' on the resulting binaries from any build. This tool will indicate whether armv7 code is present in any of the code segments within the file. With Java things are a bit trickier in that the JIT gener...

I've had similar issues in the past until I worked out the power issues with the Pi. There are a number of other forums with threads that specifically deal with the Raspberry Pi power issues that should help you diagnose and fix the issue. You'll probably get the best help there.

Re: Error: selected FPU does not support instruction

Based on the error messages and the names of the files being compiled which include the string "armv7" I strongly suspect that those files contain optimizations using in-line assembly code specifically for the armv7 CPU which is not supported on the Raspberry Pi. Since you are telling the compiler t...
