Re: Java on Raspbian

I had a terrific meeting with Richard Bair at Oracle today to discuss their progress on an official Java VM that would support the Raspbian flavor of armhf. I was very pleased to see working projects with optimized VMs that I believe greatly demonstrate the potential of Java on the Raspberry Pi. The...

Re: Raspbian vs Wheezy (beta) Mono support

Is there a fund to donate to to get this issue resolved? I'm a bit of a c# zealot and I really want the mono platform to have a future on the pi. If I can't help with skill maybe I can help in another way. A C# zealot such as yourself sounds like just the person to keep track what the issues preven...

Thank you for posting a solution. I've created a link on the Raspbian Wiki to that web page in case others are looking for instructions to get the latest GDC running on Raspbian in the future.

Re: GPT support in Raspian

I thought GPT support was a standard option in the more recent versions of the Linux kernel. However, I don't know for certain that it is enabled in the Raspberry Pi kernel as built by the Foundation. What I can say is that the userland GPT tools such as gdisk and parted are present within the Raspb...

I am scheduled to visit Richard at Oracle on Thursday afternoon. It sounds like they are making progress, but I don't know the specifics at this time. The best I can say right now is stay tuned.

Re: Raspbian Source Builds?

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking here. Probably because I'm not familiar with openELEC or Android. Are you talking about the kernel used by Raspbian? If so, the kernel we are currently using is maintained outside of Raspbian by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. It should be fairly straight forwar...

Re: Guide/Script for Pisces or Hexxeh Images

I am going to build an image from scratch for the RPi using the Raspbian repo. I will use debootstrap to make a basic root file system, boot that file system on the RPi, complete bootstrap, and then install packages using apt-get. I am sure the makers of the Pisces or Hexxeh images also do the same...

OK, I've updated the wiki page and added the installer to the Raspbian server: http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianInstaller jerry.tk, do you have links on the web that describe how to work with the install files that are inside the cpio file? In the future I would like to create an installer for the Vi...

Re: Raspbian "Pisces" R2 Image

I don't have documentation on how I built this image. It was basically created with a very early version of the installer described here: http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianInstaller It's basically the minimal install created by the installer with the LXDE and xorg packages added on as well. With deboo...

STICKY: New to Raspbian and Linux? Start here...

One of the things I often see in the forums are Raspberry Pi users new to Linux asking very basic questions that go unanswered. Or, even more often, the answers provided are beyond the knowledge of the person asking the original question to be useful. I know from experience it can be very time consu...

Please could anyone tell me how to install fonts on the Raspbian - please tell me where the fonts folder is on the Raspbian? Honestly, I haven't ever installed additional fonts in Raspbian. Overall, I followed the instructions provided by the CDE wiki and I used dpkg to build openmotif. CDE could be in...

Re: Getting other Linux software working on the RPi in Raspb

Ok, lets say I've got the source - what's next? Simon, the easiest thing would be to attempt to compile the software on the Raspberry Pi itself. For most basic source code the Pi will be able to build the software without a problem, just not very fast. I've compiled some very complex software such ...

Re: wifi very sluggish under X while fine under text mode

Can anyone of the wheezy developers look into this matter ? That wouldn't make much sense, because as I understand it they're not the ones developing drivers for the Pi. Plugwash and I, the maintainers of the Raspbian distribution are not kernel developers and this issue is almost certainly with on...

Re: Raspbian Repository Problems?

Plugwash and myself are the Raspbian repository maintainers. Looking at the original list of git URLs that failed to load, those are all for a version of git that was replaced in our repository (1.7.9.5-1) by the newer version (1.7.10.4-1) on August 8th. An "apt-get update" should have updated the a...

Re: wifi very sluggish under X while fine under text mode

I've had very similar problems in the past and it is indeed a frustrating experience to figure out what is going wrong. It took me over a month to track it down. In my case, it was the low-speed USB port in my keyboard that was giving the USB drivers in my Pi problems. Even if the keyboard USB ports...

Re: MATE for Raspbian

The version 1.4 MATE packages have been compiled and moved to the Raspbian public servers. If you are a current user of MATE, a usual "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" process should upgrade your installed version 1.2 of MATE to version 1.4. Beware, it will take a while as every single MATE packag...

OK, I've reconfigured one of the Raspbian build servers to build the MATE v1.4 packages. The builds are just now beginning.
