Re: 2.6 kernel configuration???

For now, all the Raspbian images that I know of use the Foundation kernel and it's the one you get when you use Hexxeh's 'rpi-update' tool to update the kernel and firmware. I believe that kernel is 3.1 based, but perhaps someone else may have more specific information on it's version. Plugwash has ...

I'll never get used to new fangled things (includes nano vs. vi) - old habits die hard. ;)
What's wrong with vi? And what's nano? Also, I do load the ifconfig settings on my own systems too. :)

Re: 8000 interrupts per second when idle!

For a number of weeks I've been having a lot of USB problems with my Raspberry Pi. With my two USB keyboards I would see a lot of dropped keys with the problem getting worse when LXDE is started. Also, when running LXDE I would see networking take big hit in performance (ssh sessions would slow to a...

Re: ifconfig & co

I just installed the Pisces+MATE image. It runs great, but i installed some wifi drivers and found out that there is no ifconfig, iwconfig, iwlist, ... ifup, ifdown,... The "ifconfig" family of tools seem to be obsolete and are not included by default in new installations of Debian (and therefore R...

I sometimes have keyboard hangups as you describe, but not associated specifically with XBMC. I just unplug and then plug it back in to the USB port to get it working again.

Re: Keyboard & Mouse not work LXDE

Kevin, sorry you're having problems. It sounds like your keyboard/mouse worked before you made the switch to the USB drive partitions (BTW, this is the way that I run Raspbian myself). Some things you might try: 1. For many weeks I had a lot of problems with two different USB keyboards. My symptoms ...

Re: Instructions for building XBMC for Raspbian

I would love to hear if others have been able to follow the steps to create a working version of XBMC. My next steps will be to eliminate the need to monkey around with the Broadcom GL libraries and header files and to have the install go into /opt/xbmc. It would be great if someone beat me to it an...

Re: Building Nodejs on Raspbian

I'm still not able to install npm - hope this is a minor repository thing that is easy to address. OK, I think I resolved all the dependencies. I can now do an 'apt-get install npm' without dependency issues. It will still take a few hours for the updates to hit the public Raspbian repositories, bu...

Nexy, thanks for taking this on. It is indeed one less thing for us to do which is appreciated. If you create a StartHere wiki page with the same content, couldn't you just edit your Start Here posting in this forum to link to it? I'm just suggesting the Wiki page thinking it's a hassle to unlock, u...

Sorry, I don't see what the problem is. Did you perform step 8?

To get sudo on Hexxeh's image, just do 'apt-get install sudo'. You'll then need to add your user account to the sudo group in '/etc/group' file.

I'm a little confused by the recent postings to this thread (don't worry, it's my problem. Not yours). Is there something that still needs to be done to get libv8, nodejs and npm working within the Raspbian repository? If so, please let me know what specifically should be added. Otherwise, I'll assu...

Re: new repo hostname mirrordirector.raspbian.org

Plugwash, I've been thinking about this a little more. Could we simplify the name to "mirrors.raspbian.org" (my preference) or "director.raspbian.org"? Although "mirrordirector" may be a bit more explicit as to what it is is, I believe a shorter name will be easier to remember and easier to direct p...

Instructions for building XBMC for Raspbian

Obsys on the #raspbian IRC channel passed along to me some instructions for creating a working version of XBMC in Raspbian. Building my own version of XBMC, I've refined the instructions a bit and posted them on the Raspbian wiki: http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianXBMC Testing XBMC with some H.264 med...

@mpthompson I couldn't install npm because the dependencies couldn't be resolved. Would love to see it happen, but others will have to contribute the manpower to do it. I think plugwash and I would go "tilt" if we take on anymore than what is on our plates. BTW, aren't there Debian based Puppy Linux builds? If so, the techniques used to build those should apply directly to an arm...

Video of ODE running under Raspbian

chris_c pointed me to a YouTube video of ODE (Open Dynamics Engine) running under Raspbian. It's a good demo of what OpenGL ES and hard float binaries can accomplish. Thought I would pass it along and share with everyone else.

Thanks chris_c,
