Re: MATE for Raspbian

Absolutely no apologies required, I was just wondering that's all. Congratulations on the move forward to an official Foundation image. If we could just get them to take a look at MATE I think they may like it as I think it might be easier for kids to work with. However, I've played with the alpha ...

Raspbian on Raspberry Pi Front Page

Hi everyone, Looking at the front page, it looks like the Foundation is spilling the beans that future official images from the Raspberry Pi foundation will be based on Raspbian. The first image should be out soon and will essentially be a close work-alike clone of the Debian Wheezy armel image that...

Re: MATE for Raspbian

In between all this other great work, have you per chance managed to progress with this option? I'd still love to figure out how Cinnamon compares with MATE in terms of resources used. I'll try to find time to switch to my other laptop environment (Mint 13) and install MATE on it, for comparison pu...

aargh. I just did a... apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade ..and now XBMC wont start. I get this from within X libEGL warning: DRI2: failed to authenticate ERROR: Unable to create GUI. Re: automake1.7 & build-essential

Any build tools you get from the Raspbian repository should be set to automatically build applications that take full advantage of hard floating point instructions. If you find an instance where that is not true (and you shouldn't) then it would be considered a bug and we would work to fix the probl...

Re: packages you want to see in raspbian

Sure you can but if you're building full distribution, not single packages, it's a little bit different. You don't want to make exceptions for some packages as you wan't all updates to be done automatically in one environment. Plus, AFAIK, raspbian is pretending (well, that may be a bad word but st...

Re: packages you want to see in raspbian

I tried to build Gnat three days ago as it is one of the last compilers that Raspbian doesn't yet support. I made the changes to the package that should allow it to compile Armv6 code and FPU instructions, but the build stalled for some reason about three hours into the build. I spent a few more ho...

Re: Analog Audio XBMC low volume AC3

Sorry, I can't suggest anything here. Sound under Linux is still a bit of a mystery to me. I would suspect there is probably a gain value in one of the configuration files that isn't set correctly. Could also be an XBMC config issue as well. There is another thread where folks are discussing getting...

Well, that would be excellent! I'll happily test anything that you produce! I've just made a donation to Raspbian, influenced by the quick response on this forum! Ughh. The build system I like doing builds on is working on LibreOffice which is a three day build. I'll let you know if and when I get ...

Sorry about that. The 'clear' is just to clear the screen of text cruft as XBMC seems to let it leak around the edges if you have a 4x3 aspect ratio screen.

Unfortunately there is a showstopping problem for me - Using composite out on a PAL SDTV. The X session is visible in the black bars above and below the video. Re: packages you want to see in raspbian

I would love it if a binary of gnat and gnat-4.6 could be built. I have gotten stuck trying to build it myself on my rpi, and can't really work out what I should be doing. It seems that I would need an older gnat on there to be able to build it, which I obviously don't have. I tried to build Gnat t...

A few observations.. Is there any particular reason for including DECnet in init.d? Perhaps we could keep NFS disabled by default but include something like tightvncserver instead. Contrary to what other have written, I don't really see any real benefit in having a relatively large swap file by def...

I wonder if this issue is similar to the reported problem with the older R1 version of the Pisces image (http://www.raspbian.org/PiscesImages) where an incompatible IP address had been hard-coded into the image?? The Pisces R1 image had a problem where one of the configuration files expected the et...

Ideally somebody smart could package this up into a .deb for those who are afraid\unable to compile themselves. Not sure if this is a big ask or not. That is the long term goal. Unfortunately it is a big task and with a package as complex and with as many dependencies as XBMC, it probably requires ...

2. Symlinking and copying to system directories just feels dirty to me :) Here's how I did it: Made the file /etc/ld.so.conf.d/0_broadcom.conf and added a the line "/opt/vc/lib/" to it. After that ran ldconfig. Used these environment variables to set the paths: export C_INCLUDE_PATH=/opt/vc/include...
