Re: Flickr - That's All I Want!

I've uploaded 10,000 family photos to my account and I'm hoping I can set up a simple Flickr viewer for my Grandmother's TV. I've read XBMC is a possible solution but anything simpler would be much appreciated. As above, if the Flickr add-on works with RaspBMC (I've not tried it so can't comment on...

Re: Using VGA on a PC monotor

It's a Proview CY-565 15" LCD Monitor, model number 568. Hokey dokey. As far as I can tell, it has a native resolution of 1024x768 and is happy running with a 75Hz refresh rate. Try... hdmi_force_hotplug=1 hdmi_drive=2 hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=18 disable_overscan=1 ... with all your other stuff comme...

Re: Powering Pi with batteries

i am now using 8 AA batteries and l7805. If that's the NiCads you mention later, that's 1.2V x8 = 9.6V. Your regulator has to dissipate over 3W and derates at roughly 50°C/W without a heatsink, so it's definitely going into thermal-protection mode and giving out less than 5V unless you have a decen...

Re: Raspberry Pi Satellite

Although the OP mentioned the word 'satellite', he never used the word 'orbit', so I'd assumed he was talking about launching a rocket into space (the term 'space' has many interpretations) and returning it by parachute (as a parachute is in his parts list). I'm still not entirely sure what the OP m...

Thank you very much, this solution is very interesting, eventually the boot SD could also put in readonly mode... You're welcome. The read-only switch isn't actually connected to anything on the Pi, so no. Do the USB stick suffer of the same corruption problems of SD card? They don't seem to from w...

Re: SD card corruption and alternatives

I'd like to know if it is possible, after some kind of configuration, to run Raspberry Pi exclusively with USB stick, and if this will avoid at all the corruption problems. Not exclusively, no. The Pi has to boot from the SD card slot, but it's not difficult to move the OS partition (/root) to a US...

So I think thats not the problem.
But have you actually measured the output voltage under load, preferably with an oscilloscope? I'm appalled by how few manufacturers can actually built a PSU worth buying nowadays.

Re: What size capacitor do I need to connect this.

That would be with maximum light intensity/minimum resistance I guess. Try it with the 10 Lux and 100 Lux values from both datasheets as well then pick whichever you prefer in terms of voltage range. Job done... well, apart from actually building it. :P

Either should work with the circuit you found in the linked article. Maybe have a play with the one with the highest resistance first?

Re: What size capacitor do I need to connect this.

Knowing the change in resistance from light to dark would be handy. Do you have part numbers for them so we can double-check the specs? I normally go for the ORP12 LDR when I need one as the resistance swing is huge on those ranging from a few hundred Ohms in bright light up to 1MΩ or more in the da...

Re: What size capacitor do I need to connect this.

Look for threads on measuring resistance with a Pi. It's been done several times by making the resistance part of a C/R network, driving it from one GPIO pin as output and reading the charge time with another GPIO pin as input. There's no need for an ADC unless you're looking for high accuracy.

Re: Solar powered pi

Some form of voltage regulation will be needed between the battery and the Pi as it needs a supply between 4.75V and 5.25V ideally. Lead-acid wouldn't be my first choice as the commonest voltages available are 6V and 12V. The 6V variety would most likely fall below the drop-out voltage of most 5V re...

Re: Setup display resolution

The specifications section of the manual clearly states that the monitor's optimum resolution is 1680x1050@60Hz. Doesn't Raspbian default to that for your monitor? I would have thought that all you'd need to do to get a full screen at that resolution is to remove the '#' before 'disable_overscan=1'.

You may have more luck stress testing yours for stability by taking a look at the works of Roy Longbottom. http://www.roylongbottom.org.uk/Raspberry%20Pi%20Stress%20Tests.htm#anchor7 I suspect that the reason for his crash at 1GHz was most likely caused by not upping the RAM voltage despite overcloc...

Try running this Wolfram code at the same time as the pi script. I'd like to, but it contains syntax errors regardless of whether I copy and paste the code from here or from the link. It tells me that the 3rd close bracket that's on yours doesn't belong there, but after removing that, it throws ano...
