Re: How to use 4G mobile network on RPi3/RPi4?

If you plugged in the modem after boot, then the only lines in the dmesg output related to the modem will be the 5-15 last lines. OK, so I will reboot again and THEN plug in the modem. Interestingly after I pulled out the modem I checked ifconfig and now the extra eth1 is gone... Now I have done th...

Re: How to use 4G mobile network on RPi3/RPi4?

If the device is not correctly recognized by the kernel then plug in the modem after Pi boot, and then run the command "dmesg" and look at the last lines. If you post them here, we might be of some help. I rebooted with the modem attached and here is what I get now: $ lsusb Bus 002 Device...

Can an RPi4 usw WiFi as client and AP at the same time?

If I have set up an RPi4 with WiFi running an Access Point, can I also connect by WiFi to a nearby hotspot or is this not possible without adding a USB WiFi adapter?
The AP is there to enable configuration access when there is no wired LAN...

Re: How to use 4G mobile network on RPi3/RPi4?

Thanks, I found a Huawei E8372 on one of the linked pages that will both connect to 4G and present a WiFi hotspot! So the RPi can then connect to this hotspot and there will be no need for plugging anything into the RPi USB ports and install drivers etc. :D Just plug it into a USB charger. I have ju...

Re: How to use 4G mobile network on RPi3/RPi4?

I have read a number of search hits without getting anywhere... What I would need is some HOWTO page for connecting an RPi to the mobile network using an USB modem. Is there something like that anywhere? From some of the pages I have scoured I extracted some commands, which I have used on a fully up...

How to use 4G mobile network on RPi3/RPi4?

I want to make my RPi networked all by itself, so not connecting via WiFi or cable to a router and such. Only using a USB connected 4G modem supported by RPi and Pi-OS. What are my options for modems working with RPi? And what software do I have to add to a fresh Pi-OS installation to make it work t...

How to automatically switch WiFi state depending on eth0 state?

This concerns an RPi3B+ with built-in WiFi running the latest PiOS. When the RPi is wired to a network by eth0 I want the WiFi to be disabled. The reason is that I don't want the Pi to be multi-homed since it screws up packet routing. But the WiFi needs to be available if the eth0 is not connected o...

Re: Why can I not mount an RPi3 SDcard via USB?

Thanks, but: $ sudo mount -t ext4 -o ro /dev/sdc2 /mnt/sdroot mount: /mnt/sdroot: cannot mount /dev/sdc2 read-only. I switched SDcard carrier so the card now turns up as sdc. I have an RPi3 which I need to examine concerning some start issues. So I have put its SDcard into a USB carrier I use when burning new SDcards for my RPi devices. Re: Relay TCP/IP connections to a hidden server?

It seems at first like VPN would be a possibility, since the RAS portion of the previous system maps well into the VPN server solution, but *only* if the VPN server resides on the remote system itself so the client connects to the remote system. But that is not possible due to the lack of the publi...

Maybe use an external web server / MQTT broker to host a flag (file or message) that's polled by the control system to tell the it to start the VPN when found. When access is needed you just FTP or web create the file and wait for the control system to call home and appear you your network. I was g...
