This may be off topic just a little, but I would like to be able to simply 'pipe' my mpg123 output to a s/pdif (toslink) module. I had been experimenting with a pic32mx250 to output a bmc signal via a toslink connector, and it works. The pic32mx2 has i2s capability, which I don't really need except ...
