Re: Raspberry PI3B+ is Usable as everyday computer

Getting off topic is OK, I solved the problem thanks to the help from the forum the PI is now usable as a daily use computer. I don't see a method of ending the conversation. Usually most forums allow the originator to end discussion so that off topic subjects will not confuse someone in the future ...

Re: Raspberry Pi is unusable as everyday computer

I have not checked with the wife today but yesterday she love it!! I just received the Solid State Drive and am setting it up. Amazing how easy it was to setup, just add a line to config.txt. Of course the PI 3 was programmed to accept USB boot devices. I will try to get the wife to post her comment...

How to ZRAM?

In my other thread about the Pi being unusable for everyday use: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=237297&p=1451466#p1451466 It was suggested running/using ZRAM to replace memory swapping would help. I tried: sudo apt-get install zram-config and get ... Unable to locate package...

Re: Raspberry Pi is unusable as everyday computer

Running NOOBS on 3B+ WiFi 8gb SD Gmail

Latest version of Chromium.

A memory problem seem likely.

Would a thumb drive be better than a SD card?

5.5 volt power supply

Tanks for the replies.

Any suggestions on what we might do?

Raspberry PI3B+ is unusable as everyday computer "SOLVED"

My wife has tried to use the Raspberry Pi as her everyday computer, actually she only uses it for email and listening to music. The Pi just stalls often if she clicks on a link maybe it will connect but mostly it doesn't. She is using Chromium for her browser. Then if the link actually connects it w...

Re: CUPS printer not printing HP 4520

While Googling problems with CUPS it seems the "solution" often was to delete the printer and reinstall!!

So thought I'd try deleting the printer and reinstalling it.

TaDah!! it works!!!

Thanks everyone for your help!!

Do I dare try the scanner?

Re: CUPS printer not printing HP 4520

Duh, so much for paying attention

But a BIG THANKS!!

Now if only I could get to 192.168.1:631 I am getting a Google search instead of CUPS.

That is with a remote computer I will try local.

Re: CUPS printer not printing HP 4520

I could but do not know how!!

CUPS is not seeing any errors (at least any reported errors) it considers the print job completed.

I believe it is the printer not CUPS causing the problem.

But if you help me check the error log and to look at the pdd(?) files, I certainly will.

Yes, and the 4520 and 120 were acknowledged during the install.

I subscribed to the CUPS mailing list and ask there also is that list active I received no reply.

Re: Lost WiFi and other strange stuff

ah THANKS, I was "suspecting" something might have gotten corrupted.

I was getting a "Low Power" at startup as I was just using USB as power and I had a expansion card plugged in. Now I am using a dedicated power supply.

I will start over.

Thanks again.

Re: Lost WiFi and other strange stuff

Gee can't one of the resident experts even guess about how to get a working desktop back?

The only way I can go to a different window is to close the window, most new applications anchor in the top left of the desktop and cannot be moved. So I cannot jump between File View and Terminal.

Lost WiFi and other strange stuff

Hi I am new to the Raspberry Pi and have not used Linux since it came on 36 floppy disk. I had Raspbian working and connected my WiFi. I did a bunch of updates and started doing library installs for a DVK512 expansion board. I installed/updated Wiring. Shut down normally. The next day (today) reboot...
