Re: GPIO.output possible fails

Thanks, but that is an awful lot of time to set 8 bits in a shift register. Well, and the idea was that as long as each statement was complete before the next started, i should be in good shape right? A friend says I should be able to get away with at least 25mhz or so on the 74HC595. Some linux and...

Re: GPIO.output possible fails

I wound up unrolling all the loops and logic, problem persists. This "usually" works. Edit the file a few times to turn one on and another off, and sometimes I will wind up with two one! Re-run the script a few times without editing between, and it will get set correctly after a retry or two. Seriou...

GPIO.output possible fails

Is it possible for GPIO.output calls to fail? I am seeing unreliable behavior with a shift register and am not sure what else could explain my problems. if one of my GPIO.output calls failed, that would explain it. but the API does not seem to return a value?

what is up with that?

7seg connection

I picked up one of these, well different color but whatever - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11408 Is there a handy way to hook it up to a raspbian pi and feed it a simple 4char to display? It looks like each connection point controls a separate segment of each LED?! holy smokes! do i seriously n...

reading usb serial from arduino

I have an arduino printing to serial (running Serial.println for those familiar) and I never get the output on my raspberry pi when it is connected. It does create the device in /dev and looks like it should work but I never get any output. I whittled down my arduino program to the point where it li...

streaming with camera board

I have a pi camera board and it works great for stills. Call raspistill, output to a file, do what i will with said file. Simple enough in concept and execution. How the heck do I get a video feed? It does not seem like it would be as simple as dumping to a single file. Does it end up a pipe or fifo...

Re: reading PIR open collector

Aha! SIlly me was using 5v with arduino and 3.3v with pi. Cannot believe i spent a day debugging that :( ah well, such is life. connect it all to pi pin 2 instead of pin 1 and we are back in action. So, do i want to use a logic level converter between my signal and the gpio24 i am trying to use as i...

reading PIR open collector

I have a PIR sensor that i have connected to arduino, and i can read high/low perfectly fine. All works well. Then I attach this same circuit to my Pi, with the signal on gpio24, and I simply cannot get it to work. I have verified gpio24 is the right one, connected an LED and set to output and it wo...

Re: open collector

That is fantastic; thanks much! Is there a programatic way to set GPIOs direction/edge etc, other than a dirty 'system("cat blah")' way? I don't know. I'm not aware of one. The /sys/class/gpio interface seems to be the way to tell the kernel to handle interrupts on your behalf. If you bypassed that...

open collector

I have an open collector wired up to power, and a raspberry pi GPIO pin, and it works great! Except, I need to read within like microseconds to catch what this sensor throws. It does not hold the signal state for very long at all. Is there some way to have an "interrupt" or callback for when the GPI...

raspbian 2014-01-07 sshd problems

I am running raspbian 2014-01-07 and every week or so my sshd stops letting me in, some complaint about verification or handshake exception maybe? I dunno I do not have the message handy. In any case this is terrible because I need to pull the plug on it, and then wind up with fs corruption. Any kno...

Do I want a resistor in line with the alarm pine to protect the raspberry pi pin, or was that only to protect the LED in testing? (Looking at a tutorial now)

PIR motion sensor

I want to connect a PIR motion sensor like this one - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8630 Sadly the only power option is 5v, and apparently needs all 5v. Can I connect it to a 5v USB power brick and ground that common to my pi? Or can I / is it better to power it separate from the pi entirely, wi...

vfat boot partition never happy

I am running 2014-01-17 and it complains about my vfat boot partition cleanliness every single boot. I installed dosfstools, unmounted /boot, ran fsck, it appears happy, but on remount i get the same message. What gives? I even removed the SD card, mounted on another machine, ran fsck there, and I h...

Re: w1-gpio vs raspistill

Right, there must be a conflict. W1 is the Dallas 1-wire support, stuff like temperature sensors or other simple electronics. My latest, I have been able to move the w1 to a different pin and make the camera happy, but the w1 devices are not seen. At least the camera works and I have a lead, but as ...
