zero w: wifi switching between AP and Client mode?

Dear members, So, I have made an AP of my Zero W by following the documentation: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/access-point.md . But I am now looking for a smart way to switch between the Rpi as AP or as a normal Client. I am not looking for the simultaneous use, b...

systemd gpodder.service

Dear members, I have installed the gPodder podcast program on my raspi 3B+. I would like the gpodder program to start automatically at each boot. I found some documentation on systemd in the documentation section of the website. I know gPodder is a Python and GTK+ program so I thought to make the Ex...

Amazing. This happened also to me, yesterday, after removing tightvncserver. After digesting this thread: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=194764&p=1546715&hilit=login+screen#p1546715 , I turned to the stackexchange ( https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/45914/raspb...

Re: No FSTAB error but entry not processed?

First of all I want to thank you for taking the time to help me. :) - The mount point /media/FTP exists and nothing else is there before mounting. - The UUID is correct and taken from blkid and checked. - I can mount with the partition with the simple sudo mount /dev/sda2 /media/FTP . and while writ...

Re: No FSTAB error but entry not processed?

From the help.ubuntu.com: File System Type You may either use auto or specify a file system. Auto will attempt to automatically detect the file system of the target file system and in general works well. In general auto is used for removable devices and a specific file system or network protocol for...

[solved] No FSTAB error but entry not processed?

Dear members, I'm running a raspi3B with raspbian. There is one item in FSTAB that is not being processed. The entry is: UUID=319d71bc-3d6e-48c2-a5c0-62152e5ce8d2 /media/FTP auto nofail,uid=1002,gid=1002,umask=0022,dmask=0022,noatime 0 0 What could be the reason for this item not been processed prop...

Re: [solved] useradd -u ftpuser (dabbling with ftp)

Think I got it now.
They are virtual users because they are unknown on the system.
So you have to use some sort of database where they are known.

Re: useradd -u ftpuser (dabbling with ftp)

@neilgl: Thanks for reacting. This is intentional. I am not going to use pure-ftpd.
It was my intention to investigate the concept of a virtual user.
I thought it can be used with vsftpd as well.

Thanks,
peter

useradd -u ftpuser (dabbling with ftp)

Dear members, I am dabbling with FTP and started out with the instructions on https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/remote-access/ftp.md User ftpuser is created without a login shell or home directory. Later on a virtual user named upload is created, mapping the virtual user to ftpuser and ftpgr...

Dear members, Found a dymond 5V usb powered double string of 16 x 5050 rgb leds in the shop. With a remote control. They are presented in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUlVO5pA5ww . Re: fresh install raspi3: no graphical login

What is lightdm? Because I can start it and get a graphical view on the login credentials.

Tried the Desktop with autologon option to boot. That presented me with the same gui login screen.

Re: gui login raspi3: running circles

Thank you so much for your contribution wh7qq.
It made it very clear I had totally lost my way.
Did not have a good perception of what a minimal image (Lite-version) means and what consequences it had.

I consider this thread as solved.

Thanks,

[solved] gui login raspi3: running circles

Dear viewers, I just installed my raspi3 for the first time and noticed some hick-ups in raspi-config. When I choose to boot into the graphical environment (3 boot options, B1, B4 Desktop Autologin) I end up with a Graphical login with two fields. The upper one has no pointers as to what it is, but ...

arduino uno: additional boards manager?

Dear members, What is the way to extend the arduino ide with other devices, like the esp8266? Supposedly 'it' can be put in the preferences.txt file, but what should i put there? In the (x)ubuntu version there is a field to add urls for other devices in the preferences. But how to handle this on a r...

Re: esp8266 interfacing problems

Well, the github page of espressif/esptool states it can be used for esp8266 and esp32. The newest (development?) version seems version 2.2 and I am using v. 2.1.
Are you (@HermannSW) suggesting I should look for an older version? I have no idea where to find that.

Re: ttyS0 Problems

Dear members, I am returning here because of a weird baud rate I used in an earlier post; 74880. Found the origin of this baud rate on the github site of espressif/esptool: The ESP8266 boot rom writes a log to the UART when booting. The timing is a little bit unusual: 74880 baud . But this is probab...

esp8266 interfacing problems

Dear members, This thread is a continuation of https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=188233&p=1234299#p1234299 about ttyS0. As the problem seemed to involve ttyAMA0 rather than ttyS0 it seemed better to move the location. Meanwhile the problem moved to the general interfacing with...

What would be the best location for a thread concerning ttyAMA0? I am quite willing to change.
