Re: HW acclerated playback xwindows like chromium

I am not saying about hw accelerated decoding, I am saying about hwacclerated rendering. Raspberry Pi2 processor is strong enough to decode 720p video but it is not strong enough to render video on fullscreen. You can not play smoothly a hw decoded video on x11 output. I have confirmed this by play...

Re: HW acclerated playback xwindows like chromium

As far as I know, OpenGL ES can not be integrated with xwindows. So every app that uses hw accelerated playback, overlays on screen. But I am quite surprised Chromium browser is able to play video with hw accleration without overlaying. Can anyone explain how is it possible? OpenGL (including ES) i...

Re: Real Time Transcoding of DVB TV Streams

Hi gkreidl, thanks for the great work on rtranscode. I was looking for an efficient transcoding toolchain for the Raspberry Pi and this was just what I was looking for. My goal was to create a simple transcoding HTTP proxy (e.g. for Enigma2 set top boxes). This is what it should do: [*] Take a clie...

Re: Raspbian, ffmpeg with OMX and MMAL support - why slow down when resize video?

Yes, with ffmpeg everything is nice and clear nad working very well with OMX and MMAL. If i set "-acodec copy" performance is much better instead with audio conversion. But with ffmpeg problem strats when I want to resize video - then performance is going down to couple fps when converting FHD to 4...

Re: First time Pi3 user - feels cheated

In chromium the GPU is used for decoding the video, but the decoded video has to be copied into the frame buffer and this includes a costly colour conversion. How well this works depends on the target screen area. It works perfect for up to 720p, but if you go to full screen on a 1920x1080 monitor, ...

Re: First time Pi3 user - feels cheated

@minerja Unfortunately some of the information given above is simply wrong or misleading- You have to understand first, that a Raspberry Pi is not as powerful as a normal Desktop Computer. And it only supports 1 GB of RAM, which is not much especially when you are trying to browse the web in the sam...

Re: Raspbian, ffmpeg with OMX and MMAL support - why slow down when resize video?

Building gstreamer pipelines is not an easy task at all. The documentation is rather lousy (tsdemux isn't documented at all, for example) and the examples published on the net usually don't help with more complex applications Running gst-launch-1.0 with the -v option usually tells us where the pipel...

Re: Raspbian, ffmpeg with OMX and MMAL support - why slow down when resize video?

So, at the moment is no chance to resize video with hardware support on RPi? I'm doing that all the time with my gstreamer-omx based solution (Wheezy and Jessie only so far). Here's an example of a pipeline which resizes a 1920x1080 live stream to a 910x512 1.5 MBit stream (fed into http-launch). s...

Hmm . Although its not something we produced, I had a quick look at the source code for it, seems OK. So not sure what the problems might be, Might be worth trying to contact the author of the utility.
I've been using it a lot for manuals and tutorials and it always worked for me.

Tutorial: Compile VLC with HW acceleration - Stretch, RPi 2/3

VLC is a great media player but the version from the Raspbian repository does not support the GPU of the RPi and is not able to run high resolution videos. We have to compile our own version to add hardware accelerated video. Note: This version will display video in an overlay, similar to omxplayer,...

Re: Playing video on Raspbian Stretch Inquiry

II would advise any beginner to use the latest version of omxplayergui for playing media. This is part of the Minimal Kiosk Browser but works independently of it. In other words you have to save Minimal Kiosk Browser onto your pi but you do not have to load it up. The Minimal Kiosk Browser (a.k.a. ...

Thanks it worked. Regarding the OMXplayerGUI, isn't it part of the kweb browser or there is a way to download it separately/ No, it's only available as part of the kweb suite. Kweb is required to edit the global settings and for omxplayerGUI's web interface. And omxplayerGUI is required by kweb to ...

I have used a B+, later a RPi 2 and now a RPi 3 for TV access and they all worked well.
