Re: Fresh install of latest Kodi on latest stable Raspbian doesn't work

Why do you want to use NOOBs? Just install the latest Jessie image using Etcher or dd (from Linux).

Re: Fresh install of latest Kodi on latest stable Raspbian doesn't work

Kodi 17.3 for Stretch is being worked on and should be available within weeks (from the Foundation repository). Currently you will get a version from the Raspbian repository without any RPi modifications and that is useless. How can I install an earlier version that would work properly? Should I in...

I never got any VLC version cloned with git to work.
But using downloaded versions (source code) has been working for a long time now.

stretch has newer ffmpeg, but vlc-2.2.6 need older ffmpeg/libav, any idea?
Yes, carefully checking all package dependencies and then recompile VLC.
I'll update my tutorial for Stretch some day, but I have not even updated my systems yet and it will take some time.

Kodi is broken - on Jessie there is a Pi-specific version that is on archive.raspberrypi.org. Now on Stretch it seems to be pulling in a Debian version that uses X, and has a broken startup script.
That's really bad - and a reason for not updating right now (my systems run from HDD).

Re: Kweb Suite (Minimal Kiosk Browser, omxplayerGUI)

I just did a quick preliminary test of kweb on the new stretch image. Kweb3 would not load the youtube page. I tried different user agents found in utilities. Kweb did however load youtube. I will investigate further when time permits. Perhaps this problem may affect epiphany I didn't test. Thanks ...

Re: Video Converter HandBrake 0.10.5 for RPi2&3

Handbrake works great on my computer. And handbrake has updated the version to 1.0.7, so you can install the latest version of it. Otherwise, you can find the old version here: https://www.videohelp.com/software/HandBrake/old-versions#download And there are many online video converters now, which d...

Re: Account deletion?

Moderators do NOT have the abiliity to delete accounts, (not seen that option anywhere within this bbs software) , if we must, we have to manually delete each single post made, I for one would simply refuse to do such a meaningless mindless job, unless a post reveals personal data. No matter that f...

Re: Account deletion?

My opinion is It's up to the member, if they ask to be deleted then RPF should honour that request. The member should say if they don't mind if the posts are kept, but they should also have the option to have them deleted if requested. It doesn't take long in the admin panel and there will be a sim...

Yes, in my example "pi" is the user.

rc.local is run as root and will start your application as root. Use
su -l pi -c "java -jar /home/user/app/app_name.jar"
in rc.local instead.

Re: Real Time Transcoding of DVB TV Streams

Hi gkreidl Thank you for a great piece of work. I have tried to implement DVB subtitles, but my python knowledge and my gstreamer knowledge is not good enough. Gstreamer is able to overlay DVB subtitles based on the subtitle PID just like when choosing the right audio stream. As far as I have under...

If the package contains a "real" movie running for exactly 24 hours it could be easily done using omxplayer (with --loop option) and a few dozen lines of python code, which sync the video position to the current time (using dbus commands) at the beginning and at certain intervals.
