Re: HOWTO: Web video with omxplayerGUI and Chromium-Browser

Hello I am sorry for the late reply. So basically I used the command youtube-dl -g --username <username> --password <password> 'WEBURI" to get the URI (I assume it now contains the username and password) then I tried omxplayer 'address' which resulted in 'Have a nice day' I tried vlc 'address'...

Hello, da ich gerade dabei bin mir zu Hause eine Heimkinoanlage anzuschaffen, wird nun AC3 plötzlich interessant. Kann rpiotrtool damit umgehen (also ac3 und avi vor dem Schneiden zusammenzuführen)? what would it take to get this mbrola package added to the Raspbian apt repos? I know this is an old thread--the package still isn't available four years later :) Probably because it is not open source. You can download it from here (for Buster): https://packages.debian.org/buster/armhf/mbrola/down...

The video performance on Kodi is excellent, but when I try to play a video on the raspberry pi desktop (xfce4), the videos get slow and heavy (firefox-esr, chromium). The performance of the videos decreases terribly when the resolution is 720 or above. Raspberry Pi OS is not xfce4. If your OS reall...

VLC works perfect in full screen mode with X11-MMAL-Splitter video out module.

You can install Kodi on RPi OS instead of using LibeElec.

It does not use HW video codecs (only chromium does), but I prefer to play web video in omxplayerGUI or VLC anyway.

Yes, and it also happens when playing a DVD RIP, so it seems like it is perhaps mpeg2 related?
How can I make sure I am using the right codec?
The codecs are all there. If you have a pre-RPi4-model you can improve MPEG2 performance by buying the MPEG2 HW codec licence.

Re: VLC media player doesnt work on Pi

You need libdvdcss2 which is not available in the repository (because it is illegal in some countries).

You can download the sources from the VLC website and compile it yourself.

Or download it from here: https://debian.pkgs.org/sid/multimedia- ... f.deb.html

Re: Best video parameters for playing on raspberry pi 4

1080p25 works in VLC windowed mode without loosing frames. If you have a higher frame rate, it will start to lose frames.

Switching to full screen video overlay mode (X11-MMAL-Splitter) solves these problems: no lost frames any more.

Re: h264_omx real-time encoding on a Pi 2B

At least we know that the HW MPEG2 decoder does work for full HD video streams. The H264 encoder can encode up to 1080p30 (at least). Transcoding H264 to H264 (to use a smaller bitrate, for example) is not possible for 1080p video, because encoder and decoderuse the same hardware. I requires scaling...

Re: h264_omx real-time encoding on a Pi 2B

Yes, that's what I would propose: connect it to a montor/TV and just play the stream with omxplayer. This will tell you, if the HW decoder is able to decode it in real time.
