Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

Regrettably changing the line 3993 in raop.c (and recompiling etc.) did not give me sound on the cast device. :-( Some more rigorous testing revealed that casting audio only dos not work with this device (or just for a very short time). Video (with or without sound) works just fine. Strangely enough...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I think that what I have is “more-or-less” the same device, only newer (firmware is actively developed as I could download a new firmware recently). A relevant part of the log (at DEBUG) is shown below. I compared it to a log file from an Apple TV 3 (that worked!). [2019-12-19 17:47:59] [DEBUG] play...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I have a Raspberry Pi 3B with updated raspbian (10) Buster on it and forked-daapd version 27.0. Recently I bought an AnyCast/MiraCast device, The specs said “airplay” so I thought it could/would work with forked-daapd. Well, it does work with: 1. iOS devices: I can mirror the screen an play videos (...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

@ejurgensen You are right (off course). Yesterday evening I tried an tried, but could not make it work. Today I tried again, and it worked on the first try! I do not know what went wrong yesterday, but I'm happy now. The Raspberry Pi has, as far as I know, the same internal sound chip as the ...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I have a question, maybe it's been asked and answered before but I could not find it. Sometimes I want to play some music from my forked-daapd library but all my airplay devices are shut down (mainly for energy conservation reasons). I have a simple speaker set attached to the device(s) that runs fo...

The username is "admin" and the password is what you set in /etc/forked-daapd.conf (previous versions had "unused" as default)
Thank you!

I had to restart not only forked-daapd but the server as well, but now it works. :D

Thanks! ......... however, when I type in a browser http://<>internal_IP_forked-daapd_PC>:3689/ I get a "authorization required popup"! Is that just me (Too much security) or am I missing something? [edit] on an older version of forked-daapd on another server I get the same "authorization required" ...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

Am I correct that the "new web interface" can only be added (I use the git source and "./configure and make" it myself) to forked-daapd if I use Debian Stretch and NOT Debian Jessie (wrong version of libwebsockets: configure: error: --with-libwebsockets was given, but test for libwebsockets >= 2.0.2...

Re: New Raspbian release "2016-11-25"

Since you've run BRANCH=next rpi-update to get the USB/PXE bootcode then that MUST be re-run that whenever the apt-get stuff updates the kernel. That's obvious and there's nothing the RPF folks have done wrong with that one. You'll also need to remove /boot/.firmware_revision or rpi-update will ter...

Re: New Raspbian release "2016-11-25"

@B.Goode I'm pretty sure that if you used the September 'Pixel' release as a base and did the same operation you would get a similar failure. Well that's exactly what I did. Thank you for sympathising, but I'm allready over it now. Somewhat. However I find it strange that any update (apt-get upgrade...

So you did not test it and did not / forgot to put this in the announcement of a SECURITY update.

But anyway, thank you for clearing up why it did not work.
Just do not update....... ;)

Re: New Raspbian release "2016-11-25"

I would like to thank the incompetents that broke "Booting from USB" with the latest update! :x On a perfectly running raspbian system I did: (sudo) apt-get update (sudo) apt-get upgrade ..... and then after a restart (I "poweroff" the Pi after using it) ........ NOTHING :( I took a spare HD and con...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

@_RobP

For your information:
On PC hardware, not Rasberry Pi, I do not have your problem. Music plays on the right device (local sound, USB soundcard, Bluetooth) regardless of the order in which I (re)select them when using "multiple".

They are all out of sync though ;)

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I'm sorry to say I've removed the change that made it work without system mode again :o It seemed to only do the trick when forked-daapd was root, and that's not really viable in the long run. So right now system mode is required. I understand and respect your decision. I will continue testing with...

@_RobP Very nice writeup! With the latest version of forked-daapd on github (you need to compile it yourself. Easy, just follow the instructions in INSTALL.) the is no longer a need to start pulseaudio in system mode. Just start forked-daapd like you normally would and you see pulseaudio and airplay...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

Pavucontol, but for that you need a graphical shell.... catch 22.

As an alternative try to "kill" pulseaudio (sudo killall -9 pulseaudio) and bluetooth (systemctl restart bluetooth) then start pulseaudio and try again.

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

@ejurgensen I've been busy making forked-daapd work with bluetooth. I used raspbian wheezy, not raspbian jessie. It worked, but not reliably. That is not a problem with forked-daapd but with either raspbian drivers or not 100% compatible hardware. In the process of testing and trying I ran into a pr...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

@_RobP What OS are you running on your Pi Zero? Based in your reactions you are running Raspbian based on Debian Wheezy (not Debian Jessie). This is important because bluetooth in wheezy can work with alsa (via bluez-alsa). Bluez-alsa does not exist in jessie, so in order to be able to use bluetooth...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

@ejurgensen

Support for PulseAudio would be great!

The ability to easily select different audio sources would really add (even more) value to forked-daapd. :D
