I can help in whatever way you want. We did speak about this a while back, do you know if it's ok if I help as a 14 year old? My parents can agree to something if need be.

Follow this tutorial to connect an MCP23017 16-way i2c port expander to the Pi: https://learn.adafruit.com/mcp230xx-gpio-expander-on-the-raspberry-pi/overview You can connect unto 8. Make sure that for each one, you connect A0, A1 and A2 to a different combination of low (GND) and high (3v3) like 00...

Re: Enable SPI and I2C by default

Gordon, director of software and engineering at the foundation, says they're blacklisted 'because they behave badly changing the pin settings at probe time', and Dave, an educator from the foundation thinks it's 'so that those pins can be used a general GPIO if you don't need either i2c or spi'.

Re: Enable SPI and I2C by default

I've never understood why The Foundation / Raspbian maintainers decided on that flawed option. There's very little overhead and massive gains by having that stuff enabled by default and/or having a raspi-config option to enable/disable them. It could save a little on resources or be slightly more s...

How about children's accounts on the raspberry pi forum? With parental controls and moderation. Separate section for people to answer with stricter rules and moderations. Makes sure things are simple and people know to answer politely and simply. Some of us youngsters are often told off for asking t...

Re: Rev.1 Raspberry Pi Model B Made in China

the PI's in the video are not "made in china", in the sense the new red chines PI's are, and chances were the only thing that was "made in china" of these boards were the actual PCB's. but then for a long time farnell made pi's in china. Interesting. Thanks for that fact! THIS IS NOW CLOSED AS THE ...

Rev.1 Raspberry Pi Model B Made in China

I have an old Raspberry Pi model b Rev.1 (made in china). Bought in summer 2012. I need a raspberry pi with mounting holes for my next project. The new camera slot connector (only comes with UK made pis) and 512mb of ram would also be nice. Is anyone willing to buy my Pi off of me? At a reasonable p...

Re: intermittent i2c device connection

I have found a way to make it intermittent again. If I pull out VCC, so the board relies on CS (which is connected to 3v3 also) for power I wouldn't do that. It's generally bad practice to apply power to pins of a device that is not powered. Connect Vcc to power, and ensure that CS is also pulled h...

Re: intermittent i2c device connection

The chip is supposed to have +3 volts applied to VCC. Operation without it is not recommended. It is the only way to get it back to one connection 1d. If VCC is connected it comes as three devices 3b, 3c and 3d. Should I change the address in my code? If so, to which of the three addresses? In the ...

Re: intermittent i2c device connection

The address line need to be tied hi or low, not left floating. Same with other pins like reset. Recheck your connections. CS is connected to 3v3 to make it i2c rather than SPI. The only pins left floating are in1 and in2, not sure that they're for, should I be using them? Do I need pull up/down res...

Defintely ultrasonics, because that has a practical application. My weekend project was getting to grips with a PiFace CAD LCD. Started in python and switched to C for that.
