Re: No more memory available

I was referring to the function

Code: Select all

AstronomicalData[]
, not what I typed. I typed

Code: Select all

AstronomicalData["Properties"]
, which should produce a relatively short list. Instead it resulted in the indices message followed by the Mathematica kernel running out of memory and quitting.

Re: Downloadable documentation?

I pulled down the Mathematica documentation from reference.wolfram.com/language and reference.wolfram.com/mathematica. It works well locally, except for the search function which depends on the actual server at Wolfram.

All of it weighs in at about 1.2 GB.

Re: No more memory available

Same thing happened to me on a 512 MB RPi when trying to use

Code: Select all

AstronomicalData[]
. The kernel up and died after several minutes of trying to initialize indices.

Re: No menu/desktop shortcuts

Ok, got it. Thanks to a comment on the download page. Edit this text file (with sudo so you can save it): /usr/share/applications/wolfram-mathematica.desktop Add a line at the end: StartupNotify=true The Mathematica icon to open the notebook interface will then appear in the Education menu (along wi...

It looks like there is something there. If someone tries it, please let us know how that goes.

Re: Downloadable documentation?

You can use wget to download a copy of the documentation. It will take a while. There are some good tips in an answer here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1112 ... e-websites.

Re: No menu/desktop shortcuts

I have the same question. I would like a nice little Mathematica icon on the desktop with which to launch the application. The icon should be their little spikey guy: http://media.wolfram.com/logos/images/M9_Spikey.gif All I can find is a Wolfram icon (which is just the Mathematica kernel, not the n...
