For clarity's sake, what I actually did was to enter the 'Config' dialogue box and ask it to boot straight into GUI - it seemed to accept that request and action it but ......

Hi Guys, I am trying to install Raspifi on my type B Pi. I have managed to get it to update everything (took forever) and tried, apparently successfully, to boot straight into GUI. On reboot I got the log in screen and it seems to accept 'pi' and 'raspberry' as the name and p/w (does not report that...
Hi y'all ;) , I am making slow progress and as the problem seems now to be limited to RaspyFi I have started a thread here: - http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/raspyfi-install-and-troubleshooting/help-please/#p2041 which is making some progress, so thanks for your past input and any future ones you might...
Hi Guys, Update: - I've got it working fine on OpenElec XMBC and been listening to a surprisingly good SQ Classic fm. However the main reason I wanted to faff around with the Pi was to give RaspyFi a listen. Unfortunately I cannot get past the opening DOS-like screen with the large 'icon' of a pair ...
Thanks rpdom for your clarification but please see my edit above.
FWIW I can only see 2 (comparatively) biggish metal things underneath, neither of which I could identify as the component in question.

Hi mahjongg, I think you may well have put you metaphorical finger on it. I always connect it to a 10/100 LAN switch (with all the other connections) and the only LEDs that light are the PWR and the ACT, the former permanently red and the ACT mainly red but briefly in the power up cycle flashes gree...
Hi Guys, Can I ask one or more of you more knowledgeable guys to take a look at this thread please?: - http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=61868&p=464375#p464375 I have tried everything I and another member can think of to persuade the USB ports on my brand new Pi to cooperate wit...
I'm beginning to think I might have a 'duff' Pi. I have used a powered USB hub this morning with the Pi and had exactly the same result, that is no result. If I use everything to connect to my laptop and HT PC each port LED on the USB hub lights up to signify effective contact but when I then plug i...
Hi Trev, I have used a fair variety of PSUs, the one I use tonight was 5v DC 2amp, as the connection jack is a common one (micro USB?) found on many devices. I have not tried using a powered USB hub although I do have one or two - before returning anything tomorrow I'll put a powered USB hub between...
Hi again Trev, Here we go again!!, Called in at DiscountUK this afternoon and 'invested in £9 worth of USB KB and mouse - nice white colour to quickly distinguish them as Pi items - only to find they aren't recognised either. Mouse laser lights up but won't move the cursor and Caps and Num Lock LEDs...
Hi Trev, It is definitely NOOBS 1.3.2 on my card. You may be onto something though with your compatibility lists. The first KB I used is a Cerulian 2.4G Wireless Multimedia KB model no. N69JX, used with Cerulian Optical Mouse with the same model no.. The second set are Microsoft Wireless KB 800, MS ...
Hi Trev, Thanks for your reply and apologies for the long delay - had a very hectic weekend. I received a card preloaded with latest NOOBS program and on starting the system my Pi hangs at the opening screen which lists the various OS available, exactly as per the first pic in the last of your 3 lin...
Just replaced both keyboard and mouse batteries with brand new good grade ones, all to no effect. Again all the LEDs etc light up indicating that things are working as they should on the mouse etc. FWIW the only LED that lights up on the Pi is the power LED, nothing else lights up even though the gi...
@ SDX0,
Yes, the keyboard and mouse work fine on other laptop and netbook so I don't think that is the problem. I'll try replacing the batteries in case it is a low power problem.
Cheers.

Hi, I know just about enough about any form of computers to be dangerous. I have recently bought a Pi B, loaded a SD card with RaspyFi (my main reason for purchasing the Pi), inserted it in the Pi, together with RJ45 internet router connection, HDMI connection to LCD monitor, USB dongle for wireless...
