Re: Starting OpenVPN at startup, on Raspbian Buster

I thought PiVPN was to turn the actual Pi into a vpn! Technically it does, but it's still Raspbian. You can install other programs, I run pivpn, and pihole on mine. I don't remember which one i started with, but I started with a minimal raspbian install, and ran the pivpn, and pihole scripts to ins...

Re: OpenVPN port is not open/reachable from outside

Ipv4 to ipv6 may still be an issue, here is a tutorial on a double hop vpn that should help with your connection. https://www.proxyrack.com/how-to-setup-a-double-openvpn-server/ Opvnvpn supports both 4 and 6, however your will need to tunnel the traffic through a packet translator(your vserver is th...

Re: Multiple hard drives keep disconnecting

I'm surprised your pi is booting with all those drives plugged in directly. Try using a usb hub and see if your problem persist. P.S. I see you asked this same question on your other thread about your plex server, you should refrain from redirecting threads to help get your questions answered in a t...

Re: rsync to/from remote server - no password

Yes 'user' can ssh between the two machines without passwords. I am logged-in as 'user' on the local (destination) machine. I am assuming that it is also 'user' who is running rsync on the (remote) source, not 'root'? I'm not exactly sure, but it appears to me that you are trying to run rsync on th...

Re: rsync to/from remote server - no password

Hi, I use rsync to back-up root-access files from one server to another, using: sudo rsync -vazhPe ssh --rsync-path='sudo rsync' [email protected]:/path /path/ The 'user' on the remote and local machines is a member of the sudo group, so can execute rsync (and I have set 'user' in visudo to 'NOPASSWD' fo...

Re: OpenVPN port is not open/reachable from outside

Ok, I'm not exactly sure but I don't think openvpn protocol will allow a VPN connection through a relay(ie. your vserver) since VPN is an endpoint to endpoint encrypted connection. I searched online but I couldn't confirm this. I don't know if this will help you with what you are trying to accomplis...

Re: OpenVPN port is not open/reachable from outside

Just for schlitz and giggles, if you have a spare SD card why not start from scratch with pivpn, it may work where the other script you used did not. If that doesn't work, then i'm inclined to believe that your ISP is somehow blocking your efforts. I followed your advice and deinstalled openvpn com...

Re: Pi-hole & OMV - Enclosure options for HDDs and the feasibility using two USB hubs to connect 4-8 HDDS

I'm running pivpn and pihole on my raspberry pi, since both are installed from scripts I started with the minimal raspbian install. I don't think it really matters which one you do first.

Re: OpenVPN port is not open/reachable from outside

Basically it's a fiber connection. But the fiber does not reach to the house but only to a central node in my village. The last mile so to speak is usual copper cable. That sounds what is known as FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) as in the fibre connection runs to a box somewhere near your home and the ...

Re: OpenVPN port is not open/reachable from outside

A quick search showed that pivpn initially did not suport ipv6, however this post shows a small tweak in the server.conf file should fix your issue. "You only have to change one line in server.conf! tcp to tcp6 or from upd to udp6! In your client configurations, you just have to replace your IPv4 wi...

Re: OpenVPN port is not open/reachable from outside

Just out of curiosity what type of connection do you have from your ISP, cable, fiber? You stated you are able to use port 22 with your ISP, but my ISP blocks common ports for residential accounts, I run a nextcloud server, but i'm unable to use let's encrypt because those ports are blocked, and I h...

Re: OpenVPN port is not open/reachable from outside

So you don't really say in your post anything about your router setup, but normally you need to set a port forward in you router to access local lan resources such as a pivpn server.

That is very nice, did you print that yourself? I made my stack out of a sheet of lexan, but your's is much nicer than what I made. This is an old picture of mine, I don't use a hub anymore, or a raspberry pi for that matter. I switched to a rock64 1gb board about 6 months ago. Since that picture wa...

I understand what you are asking, I just can't figure out why you are asking. Are you having an issue with a resource that you need to access and h...

Re: Pi-hole & OMV - Enclosure options for HDDs and the feasibility using two USB hubs to connect 4-8 HDDS

I'm thinking of using rsync instead of RAID now. Any reason why only once a week instead of daily? I think that's his preference you can do it daily or every 12hours, or every 4hours or whatever timing you think suits your requirements... you have full control over what you want do.... ....so you h...

Re: Pi-hole & OMV - Enclosure options for HDDs and the feasibility using two USB hubs to connect 4-8 HDDS

instead of using it as a RAID1 unit, simple redundancy or "timed mirroring" is implemented So I have 2 SSD's connected to the USB 3.0 ports and OMV installed and it won't even allow you configure any RAID with USB (it says it's too unreliable). Can you tell me how you do your "timed mirroring"? Not...

I have been using nextcloudpi for a while now and find it to be very reliable. https://ownyourbits.com/nextcloudpi/

You can mount NFS under the "local" option in nextcloud and is reported to work very well. I use SMB to mount my NAS drive, that is attached to my nextcloud server.

Thank you all. I did some googling of Plex and it seems similar to kodi. On one thread where a poster was asking how to simply search by filename the answer was a blunt 'No - you can’t use Plex to search for file names'. If anyone here is using a pi to play movies and is able to search their own li...
