Rsync USB HDD to another USB HDD with a laptop.

I have two raspberry pi's. One of them I'm using as NAS server. The other one I want to use as a backup server to the NAS server using rsync. The NAS server has almost a TB of data on it and an initial rsync backup of the NAS server is going to take 80+ hours over the network. I would like to connec...

Re: How to find PARTUUID

I'll give that a try when I get home. Thanks.

I'm still open to other suggestions though.

Re: How to find PARTUUID

I need to put the PARTUUID in /boot/cmdline.txt in order to reliably boot from the right partition. /boot/cmdline.txt does not accept the UUID as a valid option.

Re: How to find PARTUUID

For each block device it lists something like:
/dev/sda1 UUID="1346-ABCD-09876" TYPE="ext4"

How to find PARTUUID

Hi everyone. I am trying to make a script to automate the process of moving Raspbian from the SD card to a USB HDD. I can find the PARTUUID using gdisk in interactive mode: sudo gdisk /dev/sda , then i, then partition number. I am looking for a command that will display the PARTUUID that is not inte...

startpar service(s) returned failure: apache2

Yesterday I installed Apache, then moments later, I uninstalled it using 'sudo apt-get --purge remove apache2'. I then installed lighttpd. Now when I am booting up I get the error message: startpar service(s) returned failure: apache2. Any suggestions on a way to correct this error? Thanks

Need help dynamically linking files outside document root

I have installed the "RPI Camera Web Interface" described here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=63276 . By default, it saves video files to /var/www/media which is on the sd card. The video files add up quickly and I have been moving the video files to an external hard drive ac...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

This project is amazing! I couldn't believe how easy it was to get it up and running by following the instructions. I have made a few changes to this project by following other peoples advice in this thread. Thanks to everyone I have been able to change the size of the streaming video and set a user...

Re: Advice on home network setup

I figured a second router, acting like a router, would separate the traffic from both networks.

Using the Wireless Analyzer rattus mentioned enlightened me to the fact that xfinity is using my router as a mobile hotspot. I am thinking this may be the cause of some of my network woes.

Re: Advice on home network setup

At the moment I have 3 things hard wired into the wireless gateway; the Rpi, a desktop, the XBox One. Unfortunately the wireless gateway acts like a hub and not a switch. When my network is quiet, I can transfer files at around 4MB/s and my media server runs smooth. If other people are on the networ...

Advice on home network setup

I'm looking for options on how to set up my home network. My current home network set-up is not performing the way I was expecting it to work. I think the cause of this lack of performance is due to a lot of "local" network traffic. When I am the only one using the home network, my Rpi seems to work...

Server Guidance needed

Hi everyone, I just ordered a Raspberry Pi with the intention of building a home server. I have checked out a lot of posts here and googled my questions quite a bit but can't seem to get any clear answers. This is my first time using linux and I am not familiar with a lot of these services. If you c...
