Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

I've just had a look through your posts and cannot see a mention of the router etc you are using, or if you are running through other switches/powerlines or a direct connection. Is the router at default setting, does it have some other option been enabled. Somebody else may be able to recreate your...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

"Certain circumstances" is the key. We need to find out what they are. This is the main reason it takes so long to find this stuff - narrowing down the specific circumstances that cause the issue. The 3B+ uses a different ethernet chip which has a different driver (smsc95xx vs lan78xx), so really v...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

I have already tested that sequence overnight and seen no issues, so No, your assumption that this is a problem with every 3B+ appears to be wrong. So there is probably an extra stage of usage or perhaps something about your particular network router that needs to be determined. For example, what i...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Sadly, I don't have time to dig through pages of posts to find one line of information. Can you give specific instructions on what you do to make this go wrong, and any errors that may be display (e.g. syslogs). Since this does NOT appear to be the tcp segmentation offload issue (although symptoms ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Sometimes, bugs are just REALLY difficult to fix. Simply as that. I have a laptop with a Intel Wireless chip in. It took Intel (Yes Intel, with all their thousands of engineers), 18 MONTHS to get that wireless chip driver stable, and tbh, I still don;t think it's particular good.Since the 3B+ was l...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Odd. The 3b+ on my desktop using standard kernels and firmware runs fine. You either have a dead Pi or there is something about your network or environment it doesn't like. I presume you are up to date with all softwae.? Yes, i am running the latest software. I had 3 RPi's 3B+ all with the same iss...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

As far as i know, every 3B+ is currently running at 450 with the latest firmware. Anyway, since my 3B+ was tested i can safely assume that it is not a RAM issue in my case. When i unplug the LAN cable and use WiFi then the 3B+ doesn't die overnight, so it should be pretty obvious that this is a LAN ...

Hmm. I wonder if this is the SDRAM frequency issues, rather than the ethernet issue that is hopefully fixed by the ethtool command. Can you try lowering the RAM speed to see if that helps?

I have a 3B+ tested by @PhilE which he confirmed has no RAM issues.

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

I tried those commands: sudo ethtool -K eth0 tx off sudo ethtool -K eth0 tx-tcp-segmentation of Both of them doesn't work. My 3B+ still crashes overnight. The only solution for my 3B+ to survive the night is to switch to WiFi and unplug LAN, but since i bought the 3B+ specially because of the gigabi...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Until this is a problem that we can recreate in the lab we will continue to be unable to understand and fix it. We want a perfect product and happy customers, so this is almost as frustrating for us as it is for those affected. I'm not going to speculate about the possible cause, but as Gavinmc42 s...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

The Pi3B+ is basically a new design with most of the major parts changed. Some parts are so new RPT is the first and only company using them. New chips end up with things called errata, these are found by users, ways around the issues are figured out and solutions are found. The 3B was a new design...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Here is a 45 minute run of cpuburn-a53. It throttled a bit quicker than I remembered, but it is a very hot day. You can see its stabilized and the freq never goes below 1034Mhz. Impressive thermal management considering this is an extreme stress test. In the early days of the old Pi3 this would cra...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

:) :) No, my Pi3B+ stays above the milli-hertz range :) :) Mine is not in a case, is mounted on edge, and has simple passive cooling. After a few minutes it throttles back to 1.2Ghz (at 70C) then eventually when it reaches 80C, down another 100Mhz or so. I have never seen it drop below1GHz ever, ev...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

So i did run the cpuburn-a53 test on my raspberry pi 3B+ and the Pi did not crash after 20 minutes. But what i noticed is that the Pi throttles down to around 600-700mHz cpu after a few minutes and temps are around 86 degree. Is this normal with this test? My Pi has no additional cooling. At least i...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

It looks like yours is simply defective (ie probably a SoC that is too far out of spec to work correctly at the required settings). I''d return it for a replacement. I literally wasted my money on this stuff, i cannot return it for a replacement anymore so the only thing i can do with it, is throw ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

This thread is mostly about Pi's that are either unreliable at 500MHz sdram or unreliable at 1400MHz arm frequency. The issue is complicated by the fact that other software errors (e.g. kernel hangs) may look very similar. If you are having problems with latest firmware then your issue isn't sdram ...

But even the new Pi 3 B+ doesn't go above 10W power consumption, which my psu can handle...
