Set network and other stuff on the sd card from Windows

I just wrote a new image onto the sd card to my rpi 2 and as such I need to set up all the network settings and enable ssh. Can this be done from Windows directly on the sd card? I don't have a screen at home that I can connect the rpi to. I know I did this in 2012 with my first rpi somehow but can'...

Re: valentine present

First off, it's always sweet to find that perfect present no matter if it's for birthday, christmas or valentines. Well done to think this up! I personally can't think of a more romantic gift than a Pi. Then again, I am a geek so what do I know. :) As for the Pi. You need to decide if you want to gi...

Connect remotely (from other network) to Raspberry Pi via VN

I've run my RPi for a long while headless and only as a server (i.e. no X server) but recently I got the need for a desktop as well. I will still run it headless but I want to be able to get into X remotely. Surfing the web gets harder and harder with console only browser, some large downloads are n...

Re: Intalling X server on Raspian

This might be a bit of thread necromancy but I haven't had the time to work on this due to many things. I pulled in all the packages and I can run the startx command now. However, I get only the following print out: X.Org X Server 1.12.4 Release Date: 2012-08-27 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Bui...

Remove Ruby compiled from source

I installed Ruby a while ago and compiled it from source. I decided to run 1.9.3. Now I decided to run 2.1 instead and found a script to compile that from source (this: https://gist.github.com/blacktm/8302741) but I'm unsure if I need to remove 1.9.3 first. How do I do this? Do I need to do it or wi...

Re: Intalling X server on Raspian

Yeah, I figured something similar but wasn't sure if that was it.

So that list is all the packages I should need? And if any are missing I just install them using apt-get for that particular package?

Intalling X server on Raspian

I've been using my RPi for about 1½ years and am very happy with it. It's become my little NAS/TorrentClient and various other things along with a fun hobby project. I'm running it headless and as such I removed the X-server as I didn't need it. Lately I've been wanting to use a graphical shell and ...

Re: Battery Pack / PSU for Pi ?

@Phill Rymer Can that batterypack be used as a UPS? I would place it between the power socket and the RPi and if there's a power short the RPi does not die but goes on but gets its power from the batterypack. When the power comes back the batterypack is charged again. This way the RPi does not go do...

Re: Cheap UPS?

Holy wall of text. Thanks a lot for the information though. However I felt that a lot of this went way over my head. I understand the basics of what you explain but... I think I have too little knowledge about currency and the hardware part of this. I am a software engineer damnit! :) Anyway, if you...

Re: Cheap UPS?

The above looks good but it's a bit too expensive for me. Costs more than the pi. :/

A really simple so it yourself would work but it would have to be very simple.

Cheap UPS?

Hello, I've had my Raspberry Pi for about a year now and I got it set up the way I want (basically). However, the last months I've had a few power outs which has screwed a bit with it. Once I had to reflash the SD card which was quite annoying. So I thought to get a UPS for the Pi. Now, it's really ...
