Re: Mac High Sierra Finder "There was a problem connecting to the server ..."

I found my own solution (but don't understand it). Whilst fiddling around I turned on the WiFi on my Mac. Lo and behold the Finder connections to my Raspberry Pis all worked again (despite the fact that my Mac was still hard-wired connected to the router as well as through the WiFi). I have no idea ...

Mac High Sierra Finder "There was a problem connecting to the server ..."

I don't know if this is a good place to post this but, as its my connection to Raspberry Pi, I'll give it a whirl. I run a network of headless Raspberry Pi's using my Mac as the window on the world. VNC works fine, Terminal works fine but, since I upgraded my Mac to High Sierra, I can't get Finder t...

Re: CamJamEDUKit 3 Motors go at different speeds

To end the discussion. Today I went out and bought a power pack which (claims to) generate up to 3.4 amp. The motor behaviour is more consistent in that the speed doesn't vary (as much) whilst just running flat out. The motors are of different speed so I'll have to fiddle around until I get them clo...

Re: CamJamEDUKit 3 Motors go at different speeds

Hi pcmanbob, There aren't any meaningful pictures to show, the motor controller comes as a single unit to plug in to the headers on the pi. However, going back to first principles, I think I've found the problem. The motors don't run at the same speed but, by fiddling with duty cycle and frequency p...

Re: CamJamEDUKit 3 Motors go at different speeds

Thanks, pcmanbob, for your reply. Based upon your comment, I checked the motors by connecting them directly to the battery. The result is that one is about 5% faster than the other. I'm going to go back to CamJam EDUKit 3 Worksheet 7 to see if using the motors more simply works. When running them ye...

CamJamEDUKit 3 Motors go at different speeds

I've been playing with the CamJam EDUKit 3 for a couple of weeks now. My hope was to create an autonomous robot that could travel around avoiding things in front of it and to "map out" the area by sensing what was in front of it. However, I have two problems: 1. The distance sensor seems to be prett...

CamJam EDUKit 3 Line Sensor

I've recently got my CamJam 3 kit and have been following the worksheets and can drive it to some extent. However, I've got two problems: 1. The line follower only seems to work when it is about 1mm from the paper; and 2. The Distance sensor gives very variable readings in a shut room. I'm using an ...

Re: Minecraft from VNC

Hi Sconemad, I tried to find the "experimental direct capture mode" in the vnc options dialogue but I couldn't find it). I'm either blind or stupid take your pick. However, RealVNC helped me and what I did was: Edit the config file '/root/.vnc/config.d/vncserver-x11' adding the following: CaptureTec...

Re: Minecraft from VNC

Hi Gadenn, What did you do to get Minecraft running over VNC? I'm running the latest PIXEL desktop with RealVNC's viewer on my Mac. When I start MINECRAFT all I get is a Black screen. I've had to edit the config.txt to force it to set the screen size (hdmi_group=2; hdmi_mode=16) but I don't see why ...

Using the Raspberry Pi as a Print server for a Mac

I saw this article http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/add-airprint-support-raspberry-pi-print-server/, on turning the Raspberry Pi into an AirPrint server (something I've thought about for a while). So I followed the steps to connect the printer to the Raspberry Pi. It all appeared to work fine, the print...

Re: VNC Server

Do you wish to control the Macs display from the Pi ? ghans No, I'm trying to control the Pi from the Mac. Re: VNC Server

I think you need to install Avahi and write a service description file (not very hard). http://4dc5.com/2012/06/12/setting-up-vnc-on-raspberry-pi-for-mac-access/ ghans Hi ghans, I have done all this and the screen sharing is working except for the fact that it is working only as a Viewer and not as...

Re: VNC Server

Did you go to Screensharing in Finder from one of the menus at the top and enter: <IP address>:5901 Thanks for your answer: No, I did not enter <IP address>:5901 I just went to screensharing from Finder. The issue seems to be that (if I remember rightly) there are two versions of screensharing a "V...

VNC Server

I know I've forgotten to do something but I can't work out what. I'm trying to control my Pi3 remotely from my Mac as I do my old PiB+. Re: Error using Python from the Command Line

I think I have half answered the question myself. It looks like its to do with the way that I'm using multi-threading. The code prints the temperature and also writes the temperature to a file for each of the sensors. To minimise the data stored, I decided only to write and print if the temperature ...

Re: Error using Python from the Command Line

Any idea what I can do about it?

I haven't been able to identify what the exception is. There seems to be some sort of issue when reading the sensor but (of course) it doesn't show up in IDLE.

Error using Python from the Command Line

Hi, I'm trying (like many others) to write some code to use the DS18B20 temperature sensors. I am using a Pi B+ and trying to use multi-threading so that the code will run quickly when I migrate to a Pi 3. The code works with IDLE (Python 2) but when I try to run it from the command line, I get an e...

Pi LibreOffice and Mac

I bought my 9 year old grandson a Raspberry Pi for Christmas (actually it was a Kano system but that is by the by). He's spent a lot of time on it (including creating a basic Pi Noobs and getting that going for himself) and is totally enthralled (particularly Minecraft). In the system he noticed Lib...

Re: minecraft-pi: Segmentation fault

Thanks Dougie.

Shows my ignorance. Making a new NOOBS is something I haven't done so I'll be on a steep learning curve.

Well, it worked. I went and bought a new SD card and created a new NOOBS. Minecraft is now functioning. Any idea what is wrong with the old system?

minecraft-pi: Segmentation fault

Hi I'm relatively new to this Raspberry Pi stuff so forgive me in advance. I'm trying to get minecraft running on a raspberry pi B that I bought 12 months or so ago so that I can help my grandson. I updated and upgraded the operating system and loaded minecraft. Minecraft does not appear in the desk...

Hi I'm Mark1953 (pretty obvious really).
