Re: How does a RPi dies

if this is an old model B with full sized sdcard the see if the socket is warped. Or the early signs of this type of failure: http://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/MoinMoinExport/SDcardSocketFailure.html Trev. I checked the sdcard socket and everything looks fine. I resoldered the sdcard contact ...

Re: How does a RPi dies

Yep, it's an B model with full size SD.
I changed the SD card thinking it might have bended a little because of the contact springs and heat.
I'll check the sdcard reader's soldering.

If the rpi can't boot from usb, I doubt the integrated sdcard reader is fixable...

Re: How does a RPi dies

Yes, that's what I'm thinking, but I cleaned the contacts, tried different SD cards.
Would there be any possibilities to boot of an usb card reader ?

thx

How does a RPi dies

Hello there It seems my good old RPi B has died. I didn't know it was even possible without doing anything too exotic. I was running openelec on it. Now, when I plug the power, the power led goes on, the ACT (green) is very, very dimly lit and nothing else. I changed the power supply, cable, SD card...

Re: RPi as backup wifi router

Thanks for your insights. I've checked memory usage of the dhcp server. It uses about 3 MB of RAM, which isn't as bad as I thought, so I'll setup the DHCP server to be online all the time. Now about the method to check for a network device availability, for now I'm using a simple ping command as it ...

Re: RPi as backup wifi router

Hi Sorry for the delay. Thx for your answers. Let me clear this up a little. Your questions helped me sort my thoughts. So, it was my believe that a DHCP server, as any service, would burn some cpu (marginal I guess) and some RAM. I've never installed a DHCP server on debian, I guess isc-dhcp-server...

Re: RPi as backup wifi router

Thx for your answer. The functionnalities I look for are: - Wifi access point - DHCP server - router Nothing else (for now). As the rpi is not dedicated for being a backup system, i'd prefer to preserve resources and keep any unrequired service offline. Plus, I'm not shure having 2 dhcp server runni...

RPi as backup wifi router

Hi I'd like to try and setup the Rpi as a backup wifi router. If my main modem/router/wifi apd goes down - I don't have internet access and my LAN is not available. I'd like to setup the Rpi to restore a working LAN until the main router gets back online: The main idea is a simple scenario: - the rp...

Re: Performance of transcoding video with ffmpeg/avconv

Well, I've heard of omxtx but I've been unable to compile it. The rpi can read those video just fine and I would need any conversion if those videos didn't need to be read on other devices. Would there be anyway to use something like mplayer to decode the video using the GPU and pipe it through avco...

Re: Performance of transcoding video with ffmpeg/avconv

Well, while I do get the fact that the RPI is a single core arm CPU running at 700MHz, I still don't understand how and why it can't decode and encode faster than 1fp/s. Also, the video sources are 1280*720 and the output files are 720*384. Now, it's my understanding that decoding a video is going w...

Performance of transcoding video with ffmpeg/avconv

Hi

I need to convert mp4 videos to other formats (mostly xvid and flv).
It all works OK using avconv but it is very slow.
It's encoding at less than 1 frame per second !!!

- Why is it so slow ?
- Is there a way to improve this ?

Thx

Re: Setting up Rpi as a webradio receiver+contro with upnp a

OK, if anyone's interested, here's what I found: http://raspberry-at-home.com/logitech-media-server/ and http://raspberry-at-home.com/squeezeslave/ and it seems to work OK. I still have a few issues to work out and there's a little mistake in the squeezeslave tutorial but I have to make a few more t...

Re: Setting up Rpi as a webradio receiver+contro with upnp a

Thanks for you answer, but is it possible to install it ontop of raspbian ?
I've only found squeezeplug images. Not what I'm looking for.
I need to have raspbian running and install everything else on it.
Did anyone manage to install squeezeplug on raspbian ?

Setting up Rpi as a webradio receiver+contro with upnp app

Hi I've followed this tutorial to setup miniDLNA and gmediarenderer. Everything's working great. But I'd like to be able to listen to webradio too. I know it is possible to do all that with xbmc but I've tried it and the rpi being headless, there's no point having all the cpu hogged by xbmc running ...

Re: Raspbian + XBMC performance issues

Mr pi is unstable at 800mhz with no overvolt. If I do an overvolt of 6 I can get it up to 950 which makes a big difference. It doesn't seem to run much hotter either. This video gives a good idea of what is possible under ideal conditions with the new xbmc updates http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErW...

Re: Raspbian + XBMC performance issues

I do have to use raspbian. I did overclock the pi and was a bit better, but CPU was still being hogged by xbmc. It did also make the pi unstable (even at 800MHz). I guess my best bet is to swap the class 4 SD provided with the pi for a class 10 and to compile. I'm currently trying out arch on a sepe...

Raspbian + XBMC performance issues

Hello I've installed Raspbian on my new raspberry. I wan to use it mainly as a media server but I do want to use it as an xrdp server on occasions. Nothing heavy, just using it to browse through web archives. Installing xbmc and xrdp was easy through apt-get and everything seems to be ok, BUT: XBMC ...

Compiling xrdp 0.6

Hi I'm a bit new to Raspberry pi and Raspbian and as the xrdp package available on the repository is very outdated, I'd like to compile a new version of xrdp. However, after downloading the source and having ./bootstrap and ./configure do their job, I have no idea on how to go further. When trying m...
