Setting up faux pas

Setting up my new Pi 4, the first question asked was "is there a black border on your screen? I answered Yes, and only realised later that I'd mistaken the TV/Monitor's black frame, so now I've got windows too big for the screen. Raspberry Pi Configuration used to have a Set Resolution button, but n...

poptrayminus install probs

I use poptrayminus on my Kubuntu system at home - -it's the most useful utility I have - but here in a rest-home I'm trying to get my Pi 3B up to speed. poptrayminus_1.2_all.deb tries to install when double-clicked, but complains that a package is missing. Very informative, NOT! Okay, open a termina...

Kodi audio issues

Hi all. My 3B was coping quite well with Kodi freshly installed. I'd been trying to use VLC, but both audio and video were severely chopped up. mpv Player played audio smoothly, but video again was choppy. Websites had Kodi as a second choice, so "Why not?" JOYsomeness! until for some reason no audi...

Re: How to autostart both xinit/startx and python script

Me too. I'd dearly like to see a config dialogue to add / delete programs to / from an auto-start sequence - and if poss to define :desktop # . I'd dearly like to be able to reboot/startup with Firefox on desktop 1 and Claws on Desktop 2 (I typically start with 4 available). p.s. I'd also like Claws...

Auto-Startup program(s) at boot - on # Virtual Desktop

I use my Pi3 as a 24/7 beacon to the Amateur Radio APRS system (look that one up!), and would like to have it auto-start the program xastir on Virtual Desktop #4 at boot so I don't have to do a daily check. The command is in the Path (at /usr/bin) so I envisage a script such as: xastir & :4 with the...

VD (sort of :)

I'm fairly sure I've tried this before, but here goes ... I'd dearly like to be able to restore a session on power-up. Linux allows multiple desktops - in fact it has a permanent case of VD - Virtual Desktops (even the default one is a 'virtual')! Is it possible to assign applications to specified d...

Desktop(s) config at boot

For the Raspbian team: As a Radio Amateur ('Ham', ZL2DEX) I do a lot of experimenting. This often involves re-booting my Raspberry Pi (3B). As an example, at present I am working to get my BITX40 kit functioning properly and modified to my standard of 'usability'. Doing this, I have the Pi with Fire...

Superbasic (Sinclair QL)

Hi folks! I'm sure there are a goodly number here proficient on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum - anybody also active on the QL? It was quite popular in its day, the first (?) to break the 16-bit address-bus 64KB limit, and targeted at business with a full 'office' suite - a competitor for the 'Beeb'. I ha...

I've installed the Cantab screensaver, and really enjoy the views of Cambridge. I also have Trinity Bridge as a Background. Autostart app to given desktop

From other forums: To run at startup try putting the relevant command in ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart This works fine (@xastir), but just starts displayed on desktop 1. How can I get it to start on desktop 4 (or other)? Something like "@4xastir" ? Or let's say you name all your virtual-desk...

Install woes: back to CLI ...

Probably a newbie issue. Downloaded latest Raspbian (2017-01-11). Last Install README said "unzip to card". OK, 15GB card - check. Kubuntu's Partition Manger Formatted fat32 - check. Unzip with ark, no containing folder - check. Fail to boot. Unzip to folder, copy (.img - ?) to card -no, that's not ...

Attempting to activate Bluetooth on my new RasPi3 to get audio through my 'hairy maids'. Re: Major (ongoing) FAIL!

What aromatic materials are you smoking or eating? Have you tried the 2016-09-23 Raspbian or NOOBS V1.9.3? What's the problem with forcing the screen resolution using hdmi_group=... hdmi_mode=... in /boot/config.txt. Do it once, rejoice forever. Have you gone to Specsavers? I'd ask the same of you....

need lower resolution.

Sorry, but I must insist! You exhibit extreme arrogance in the assumption that all users run 1080p screens! Now aging (pensioner), and with an older (read:cheaper) 20" HDMI (TV) screen (fond of the brackets aren't I?), I need 720p. This restricts the amount of info visible, and not all your 'system'...

3mm jack

G'day! This is liable to be a bit too big for the blog, so herewith: With most users not using the 3mm socket for video &/or audio out (HDMI?), it becomes useless: why not use it for (audio) input ? The Pi's guts is basically a smart-phone, ennit? They have microphones, yes? therefore the necessary ...

Main Menu Editor fail!

OK, you can add your new item in the selected category (sub-menu), BUT just try to move it up the list ... it will show as having moved in the editor (the delay at each step indicating possible saving of state?), but close the editor down and it will show in the Menu itself at the bottom.

Am I blind? Am I ignorant? I can't find the posts/threads I've created/contributed to. Greetings! Pipe-dream, possibly, but can we have an RSS mechanism to advise Forum posters of replies to their posts? I'm not sure what question your asking, do you want to revert to an older version? Is the upgraded version working? When you say ''I do stuff to the Panel'' what panel do you mean? Did you go to school? Did you learn English? OK, then use the apostrophe (and a dictionary - that's what it's for) and...
