Re: Unable to apt-get update due to no internet connection

Not sure if this helps but recently I miss-typed my router ip in the config file (/etc/dhcpcd.conf). I had no internet on my pi but I could still ssh into my pi.

Root User

I'm switching from WiringPi (Thanks Gordon, I feel your pain) to Pigpio. I'm using Netbeans as a remote IDE and continue to get a privilege error executing code. Is there a easy fix to this? Can I somehow create a Root level user on my pi and log on that way? If so how?

Re: Github

I fat fingered my router ip in sudo dhcpcd.conf. It confused me that the ssh worked.

Thanks Much all for putting me on the right path.

There must be something wrong with my network setup. At my PI I can't even get to google yet the ssh connection to my PC works and it is the same cable and router.

Github

I am having a problem with github. When typing " git clone https://github.com/mysensors/Raspberry.git" at the terminal I get the following error:

Cloning into 'Raspberry'...
fatal: unable to access 'https://github.com/mysensors/Raspberry.git/': Could not resolve host: github.com

Where is my error?

Display switch

Is there a easy way to switch between the small display I have connected to the Display ribbon connector and the one connected to the HDMI connector, preferably with software?

Ribbon Cable Name?

Does anyone know the name of the connector that is on the Pi to connect to the flat ribbon display used on the 7 inch touch panel? Any good sources for longer cables, maybe 12 inches?

For python there's https://github.com/rm-hull/luma.led_matrix
For C I've got some code at: https://github.com/DougieLawson/Raspber ... er/max7219
Thanks Doug. You are gracious as usual!

md_max72xx library

There is a wonderful library for controlling dot matrix displays that use the Max7219 IC. Unfortunately it is for Arduino. Does anyone know of a Pi version of this library or equivalent?

I2c thru Terminal

Can someone please explain how (if easily possible) to send commands to the I2C bus using the terminal? This would make testing much quicker than having to write a program.

If anyone out there has dabbled in the OWFS I need to figure out how to use the alias file so my temperature sensors retain their assigned names. Any help is appreciated.

It looks like these posts are a little stale but does anyone know of a rack or suitable way to connect the older style Parallel ATA hard disk drives to a Pi?

Re: file input

Thanks lots guys, good suggestions. The file size is around 100k bytes. I maybe wrong but since I only have to scan the file twice loading into memory first sounds like it wouldn't add much.

I have a long text file that I need to parse for 2 different strings, one at a time. Do I need to close and reopen the file before I go back and rescan the file?

Pi4 and usb hub

I plugged a powered usb hub that has worked fine on all past pi versions into my pi4. The pi works fine until you try to reboot, I have to unplug the hub usb cable and than plug it back into the pi to allow startup. I guess I will have to plug my mouse and keyboard directly into the pi. So what is t...

Re: PI 4 no video

For anyone that may experience the same problem here is what I found:

First, one of the two pi's appears to have a corrupt bootloader (I will look into this further).
Second the original sd card had some kind of error and the fresh card fixed the video / startup problem.

After a 2 month wait, today my PI 4's arrived. I loaded a 16GB sd card with the latest raspbian and connected it all up. My monitor never displays a thing. I see the red led on the pi with a few quick blinks from the green led and the voltages test out fine. Both PI's act the same. I have also pulle...

A simple hellowold program runs fine on the localhost (Ubuntu) but fails when I change the host to the Pi's IP address. here is the error printout: cd '/usr/...
