Re: Raspberry Pi 4 USB mass storage beta

Timg and hardware experts: I have created an sd card that I successfully used to convert the RPi4 to use the new USB boot capability. Can I use this same card to convert my other RPi4s without modifying the card again by using the commands needed after booting from the SD card? When the conversion ...

Ugh, how do I select the beta bootloader?
When you edit rpi-eeprom-update, change the word critical to beta.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 USB mass storage beta

I did the following steps to update the RPi4 for booting off USB: 1. Update the eeprom, using the steps defined. 2. Create a usb drive by writing a fresh image. The following steps create a USB bootable device for the RPi4 ( I used a SANDISK 128GB USB3 Ultra Lite Boot a raspberry pi 3 , ( use a Rasp...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 USB mass storage beta

@jr3us Perhaps a rpi-update without arguments as the 'mini' guide' in the first post suggests? This fixed it, thanks! Looks like msd-boot was migrated into master. I was using the instructions linked here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/bcm2711_bootloader_config.md T...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 USB mass storage beta

I've tested it, so updated to the new beta pieeprom , and installed the latest firmware . The boot seems to work very well and very fast on USB 3.0 port, without any microSD card. The UAS and TRIM are active, so there are no negative effects. My USB to SATA adapter is ASMedia 1351, and the 2TB HDD ...

Re: where to buy?

I buy from a couple of places, and I am on the East coast US as well. amazon always has a wide selection of vendors that sell them. I have used Vilros as well as canakit from the amazon market place. I have also purchased them directly from vilros at their website vilros.com. Delivery is usually wit...

One other piece of information .. I moved the sd card used on the rpi4b to an rpi3b+, and it booted to a desktop fine, with 1366 x 768 resolution. I made no modifications to the boot directory or the config.txt file. Please note, that I do know how to fix the issue by putting in information as per m...

Thank you for the information, though I wasn't asking for assistance, as I had included a work around for my issue so i didn't need a solution. Latest version of raspbian (02-05) video with RPI 4b not working on Philips 24 inch ATSC TV

When I use a fresh 2020-02-05 raspbian image, the screen never shows any indication of coming alive, stays black. The tv is a USA Philips model 24PFL3603/F7 24 inch ATSC TV with 2 HDMI ports. I have captured information below by sshing into the RPi that is not showing video: NOTE that I can get it w...

Re: Setting Display Resolution

Note that for me, the above information only partially works with the rpi 4. I had to 'monkey' with config.txt values until I found settings that would work with my RCA tv with HDMI input. Once a deskop is displayed, there is a utility in Settings -> Preferences->Screen Configuration that lets you m...

Re: When are people in the U.S. getting their Pi 4s?

I received my 2GB and 4GB rpi's last week on thursday. I am just using a regular charger with 6 ports(an Anker) that can put out 2.1 Amps per port. I am not doing any hard drives on the usb so I don't need the extra amperage. I put a meter on the supply, and It is only pulling about .6 amps under l...

I have fixed the problem. It turns out that the python3 installed with the google assistant was being ignored after doing the raspbian upgrade. I now run it using the python3 installed by using the full path in the AIY kit rather than the standard python3 for raspbian. The setup for the service give...

apt update and apt upgrade messed up something

Re: rpi3 rpi-update using next causes looong timeout usb boo

Well, I have fixed my problem by returning to the version I used prior to running rpi-update. I did this by copying the contents of /boot from the sd card i created initially to the /boot of the usb stick. I then edited the /boot/cmdline.txt of the memory stick and pointed it to sda2 instead of the ...

rpi3 rpi-update using next causes looong timeout usb boot

I configured my rpi3 to usb boot last week, and was working well. I did an rpi-update using BRANCH=next to update to the latest kernel this afternoon.
Oops, mistake, as now the rpi3 takes forever to go from text mode to graphical desktop mode(around 10 minutes).

Any ideas?

Regards!
