Re: Stella - Atari Emulator - Rom not working

@welshy Well... I've wasted 4 hours previously trying to 'compile' things on other versions of Linux, only to generate a crash-fest, or nothing at all. I'm sure there are some very easy experiences out there, but anything I've turned my hand to was more of a disaster. When someone has delivered a pa...

Re: Stella - Atari Emulator - Rom not working

No problem, but if the above is correct perhaps it would be advisable/educational to download and compile the source code? (It's a nice, simple compile). Someone says 'compile' to me and, well....... You are probably right that if you want to go further with Linux and get into it, it's a good thing...

I should have mentioned that playing Gauntlet with 2 players was fine. The Pi was like yours clocked to 900MHz.

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

I have only played Gauntlet using the keyboard for 2 players (not the most practical thing). I'm not sure if using Bluetooth and Wii remotes is a bigger drain, or if it's something specific to the game you are trying. It's well worth trying another game that is two players before taking it further t...

Re: Monitor for entrance hall - show webpage

Setting up the basics on a RPi is easy for someone with no Linux knowledge if you use a NOOBS download (it was fine for me as someone who knew nothing). Setting up the browser is also easy. The tricky bit is getting the refresh to happen. That is beyond me currently unless you code the webpage to fo...

Re: Unreliable Unreliable Unreliable

I have tried many brand and model of SD cards, they ALL can corrupt if you just pull power, if you claims there is a brand that wont corrupt means u didnt did enough testing. It's true you can't just power off as many have already said and the reasons have been explained, it is indeed nothing to do...

Re: NOOBS or Raspbian?

I'm not sure why it would get 'hacked' too often, but only you know who's on your network and what they might be up to! 1) I wouldn't think it was that important to do this if there is nothing on there currently to give you concern. 2) If you are only going to use Raspbian anyway, then maybe not. Mo...

Re: Trouble Booting New Pi

I had repeated grief with booting my RPi. It would boot sometimes, then not others. Back and forth, trying different power supplies and all sorts. Thought the keyboard (horrid old Packard Bell one) might be an issue, etc etc. It was booting roughly 1 time in 5. Once or twice when I did get it to boo...

Re: no sound on mame4all and open arena

Some of the MAME4ALL games (make sure you have the ROMS that are suitable) do need over clocking to get the sound to work right.

Are you using the HDMI out or the analog outputs?

I love these beasts, they look superb!

I remember playing all these arcade games in my teens (remember when Gantlet first appeared in my local arcade) and love to play them still.

Good work peeps!

Have you read this thread fully? http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=5851 You should be able to dictate what resolution you want sent out the HDMI port successfully. Converters and switchers don't often respond properly to the attempts of the Pi to auto-detect the resolution that'...

Most in theory I would expect to work if they are what's known as 'class compliant'. This essentially means they use a well established protocol software developers and manufacturers are both aware of.

Re: MAME4ALL for Pi

Got it all running with Gauntlet and Airwolf but the Quit is still a little unpredictable (sometimes good, sometimes black screen). Think I have a dodgy Pi or MicroSD as the boot up is really unreliable (nowhere near 50% success). Karn. [Edit - Forgot to mention I had to search for MAME4ALL ROMS on ...

Re: my Pi won'd start up

To be fair to Ron here, maybe he has a Pi like mine. On a really good day, it will boot up about one time in 4. Sometimes (quite often) 10 attempts and you'll get nothing. I thought I needed to have this or that plugged in, you know, it needs a keyboard or something, but it's really just totally ran...

Hi, Thanks for that. I'll try and look for games using your info and that sent to me pr...

I've tried reading everything on MAME but can't ever get any ROM I download to run. Tried 3 different sites as sources. Always something missing or other error, but never any game running. It's also not possible to exit the app without pulling the power. I can get to a black screen only. I feel like...

Hi Ron, The RPi can be set to output from the HDMI only yet you have the Composite plugged in or vice versa as far as I know. The first version of Wheezy I ever installed early this year caught me out on that, and I wasn't aware of which keys might help me change it. Which video out have you been mo...

Thanks William! Many things on the Pi do assume a level of experience and knowledge that those of us coming from a non-Linux background wouldn't think of, so little things like this really help! Seems so odd to include things in a distro that actually need things not included to me, but I'm a long t...

Re: my Pi won'd start up

Have you checked both the Composite and HDMI outs? How confident are you of the reliability of the power supply you are using? I've seen 1000ma rated cheap PSUs not boot a RPi, then a good 700ma PSU boot the same machine. I have a RPi that does want to see at least a keyboard, and sometimes does not...

MAME emulator

This has a high rating but all the comments underneath it on the store say what I'm getting. Obviously some of us aren't up to the task here. I have no idea how to get anything to run on this. Isn't this more a question of whether the terms of the forum allow advertising of a magazine using the forum? Not sure on that one. I don't see it as a real issue, and people sometimes need to be paid for what they do, how else do you put food on the table? We don't all earn enough elsewhere to have...
