Re: Set up a 2 wire micro servo thats actually a dc motor

Are those the ones with little pager motors and a spring? You could use a mosfet or ULN2003 controlled by the Pi. PWM them will sort of give you position against the spring. I think they are low voltage 5V 100% PWM duty might burn them out? Been meaning to get a bunch of those to make a legged bot. ...

Re: All my pi's are redshirts

RC servo are typically power by low impedance batteries direct. Check the specs of the servos. In the old days they used to run from 4 x AA cells 1.5V = 6V Then Nicads came out 4 x 1.25v = 5V. Now they might run from one Lipo 3.7-4.2V or two Lipo 7.4- 8.4V If 2 Lipo then the servos can run from the ...

You want framebuffer not x11.

I wonder if SDL will run on QEMU?
I have been trying to do graphics in QEMU framebuffer, had not thought about SDL

Re: 2 Raspberry Pi 4's dead within 2 months

Try running PiCore OS, it does not write to the SD cards and runs from ram. Power supply glitches while writing has caused me problems using Raspbian OS. At this point I would be swapping power supplies and cables. Power supplies, uSDs, cables have found to be less reliable than Pi's. What brand of ...

If LCDs are used outside the UV from sunlight will burn them out eventually.
Most Character LCDS will be fine for decades.

Re: All my pi's are redshirts

Use one powerbank for the Pi, the other for the servos. Only Gnd should be common. Motors are nasty spike generators. Powerbanks are crap for bots, you are relying on a cheap circuit to boost 3.7 - 4.2V battery to 5V at high currents and to filter out nasty spikes generated by motors. They are NOT d...

the group knows best. Nope, still learning ;) Yes a bit of confusion about VM and VNC. "Remote Desktop" would be a better term. Mind you the Pi4 has two HDMI, so you could remote Desktop your Laptop on one screen? Sticking Pi's on your home network is easy. Old ones make pretty good secur...

Would have to go out into the Garden for 16mm scale ;) Probably more room in the garden ;) SM45, SM32? Wonder what the cost of t...

Re: Digital Command and Control (DCC) with pigpio waves

Compiled ok, I wonder if it runs on PiCore Linux? Have run the pigpiod on Picore years ago, so I know that works too. PiCore is my preferred embedded Linux, runs on my 24/7 gadgets. Wish I had grabbed one of my INA219 current sensor boards from work. Now going to have to wait until after lockdown :(...

Who wants to tell the OP it will take 20 years to "learn" Linux?

Rev 1.1, 1.2 1.4 is printed on the PCB.
No idea if the B0/C0 are pin for pin?
Unsolder a C0 and put it on rev 1.4 PCB?
Once it's buried under a heatsink or in a case, how to tell it's a C0?
One day there might be a D0 part that's speced to 2.5GHz?

Re: Newbie With Things To Do

I still stand by my statement that buying a Raspberry Pi SBC is far better for a newbie The most documented way and best supported. But not the lowest cost way to try Linux if the OP already has a PC. The main difference of the Pi is the 40way header. That means hardware hacking coding on mostly Li...

"cat /proc/cpuinfo" does the same thing.
Revision d03114, which just means Pi4 8GB rev 1.4 PCB
That's documented in the revision pages.

Re: Newbie With Things To Do

Linux on USB sticks are a great way to try Linux. No need to mess with VMs My fav is Linux Mint. https://linuxmint.com/download.php It is also handy to have if your hard drive crashes and the PC won't boot. Depending on your PC, holding Del, F8, F10, F12 down on power up will get you into the BIOS s...

My Pi400 does not seem hard worked at 2.0GHz. Runs cooler than the Pi4's, I only have the one so I have not pushed it hard. but you have the usual issues of flushing the old revisions out of the resellers first, so you cant be sure which pi4 rev your going to get I put my Pi4's into metal heatsink c...

Depending on your PC you could get the Pi Desktop for PC on a USB stick and boot from that. https://www.raspberrypi.org/software/raspberry-pi-desktop/ Going to cost you the price of a USB stick to try it. Debian Linux on a Pi is very close to Debian Linux on a PC. Unless you have a gamer laptop it m...

A pi4 can *barely* handle Dolphin and that's the fastest, bestest of the bunch. Not really into games but a 2GHz overclocked Pi400 might be better than Pi4. I wonder how a Pico DVI/HDMI compares to the Prop2 equivalent. Very hard to beat the price of the Pico, but it needs overclocking. TV's usually have a few spare HDMI ports. Stick a temp/humidity/CO/VOC sensor on there for a home environment station. A wall of screens could be used for ? Not sure how...

Once things work you might find something new. I used Python for 24/7 monitoring. That had issues when I started back in 2012 with Pi - i2c sensors. Memory leaks or something. I ended up with shell script reading the sensors and logging to csv file. I can use Python or anything else to read those fi...

Seven VM's running on a Pi400 in QEMU 6.0.0.
Number 7 took some time to load, Chromium was open too.
CPU limited, not memory limited.

Wonder if 32bit VM's will run on 64bit Raspberry OS?
