Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

I was totally out in the predicted Pi4 time frame but got close to guessing the rest https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=156434&p=1141774&hilit=PI4+prediction#p1141774 Two HDMIs, did anyone predict that? Re: Raspberry pi 4 sold out?

My usual supplier only had the 4B1 left, others due early July. Not only a new Pi but 3 versions had to be made and shipped out around the World. I suppose some suppliers might have only got the versions they thought would sell? With some forward thinking it could have been announced earlier and fan...

I saw one benchmark, about 500ma+ for old 3B+ and 600ma+ for 4B.
When running the 4B was a tiny bit lower, er 1.14amp v 1.12Amp?

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

blender runs fine on a rasberry pi 3 with the opengl driver activated and it even is in the raspbian repository. (i just needed to change some settings regarding the opengl selection method in blender's preferences.) I have had Blender4 Artists 0.95 working in Gentoo64 on a 3B+, it had a more up to...

Re: The RPi4 makes no sense to me. Fight me!

There is a big market for embedded displays apparently. I think Eben said they were surprised how many go into those products. 2 x 4K HDMI displays probably has this market drooling? 4B+? I guess that means these new Pi4's are named 4B1, 4B2, 4B4? Two screens means coding on one, output on the other...

Re: PI 4 Compute module with pci-e?

On the Pi4 the PCIe is used to connect the USB hub, and its single channel. Not sure what else it could be used for, sure there lots of interesting things, but on the Pi4 itself, the PCIe bus is not exposed. Q1) On a Compute the pci-e would need to be exposed? Therefore other uses for it, modems, w...

Just that pesky new Pi4 to port to now ^-^ Yep the Pi4 with dual screens and 4GB is now a serious developers box :D Will be interesting to see how those WebGL samples runs now  I have been having trouble with 1.4.2 but it could be the cards or Etcher or even Win10. Re: PI 4 Compute module with pci-e?

Wow, that's an idea.
Easier to make Pi4 laptop with serious storage?

Q1) What else can be down with pci-e?
It is not just memory these days that use pci-e.
That might need a different form factor, probably worth it?

Re: Does Bluetooth v5 mean 5.0 or 5.1?

As far as I know Cypress don't do 5.1 yet, I spent some time looking for it on their webpages. I would be nice if this was a software update, but I suspect antenna diversity hardware is needed in the chip? Nordic have 5.1 and modules are available from third parties. Could a Pi bot be made and use 5...

The dual Micro HDMI was the surprise :D Needed so Pi's can be for my development PC? Guess I can retire that old Celeron Linux box now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feSjnKdc_hY Linux OS's have the Desktop, usually X11 based separate from the OS. Some OS's have the GUI as part of the OS, ie Oberon. I once had to drive two electric linear rams at the same speed for a solar panel tilt mechanism. I used one of those small DSP micros from Microchip which had two encoder inputs. Is it important where you buy the magnet? Not really important, I think most are made in China anyway. I get from Supermagnetman because he has a very wide range and I get 100's at a time. There are wholesalers that might restock his stuff, industrial suppliers not online retailers. Those 5mm colou...

Ok, headless mode not X11, never noticed that before. The default font can be changed? That Ubuntu font still looks like pixels so different rendering would not make any difference. It is probably the X11 Desktop Design that makes it look better. You can start with Raspbian Lite and install a X11 Desktop. Many choices of X11 Desktops based on different Windowing managers. Been a lot of testing and more Pi stuff has been up-streamed into Linux. Mid year was what I had been hearing last year/start of this year, getting close to that now. Buster freeze was in March 2019. So we are about half way though the 6 months the last one took? Before Xmas anyway? Making Raspbian ...

PiCore Linux runs pretty fast, very small too.
Even the TC Desktop is not too bad.

Raspbian is where you start learning , then you move on to other options.
If I need the Raspbian OS I update on a Pi3B then move the SD card to the Zero.
