Installed rpd-x86-stretch Desktop ok, now have GRUB boot issue

Hi, In a previous thread I was advised to install Rpi Desktop on my x86 pc, which I (after much travail) I finally succeeded doing, thanks to UNetbootin. However when I booted up, I was not in Desktop but was thrown into a GRUB prompt without a clue what to do next. Miraculously, I finally managed t...

Re: Pi 3 Network Boot won't work. Driving me nuts.

Makes sense, will do. I am, however, very curious to eventually determine why my original Pi network boot attempts didn't work. If I find anything out I will post here. Anybody else out there with ideas for me to try, please chime in.

Mike -- Thanks kindly,

Re: Pi 3 Network Boot won't work. Driving me nuts.

OK, so be it. Answer: Yes, it was too much to ask for. :( I guess I am back to the original Pi 3 Network Boot route. Once I get it to work on one Pi 3 it should work on all of them and it will be a good, simple solution. I don't need 100% reliability. I won't be booting up a Pi often. Any hints what...

Re: Pi 3 Network Boot won't work. Driving me nuts.

Thanks for another helpful nudge. <failed to find a Thai "wai" thank you bow gif> Ok, I'm downloading the Rpi x86 desktop as we 'speak'. I looked over the PiServer write-up and it sounds great. But after reviewing the documentation, ( not surprisingly) I am unsure if it and the network can be...

Re: Pi 3 Network Boot won't work. Driving me nuts.

From Mikerr "If you have a spare laptop it's far easier to use Rpi x86 Desktop for the server side, at least for testing as that's all pre-setup correctly for you (Piserver menu) https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/" Here I go again. I just can't take a hint, run with it, and actually get somewher...

Re: Pi 3 Network Boot won't work. Driving me nuts.

From epoch97: In your case: a) Hook the Pi server to a keyboard and screen, b) Take the client Pi next to your server, c) Put an ethernet cable in the ethernet ports of the Pis. Direct connection. d) On the Pi server make sure the OS sees eth0 is up, then "sudo tcpdump -vvv -i eth0 port bootps" in t...

Re: Pi 3 Network Boot won't work. Driving me nuts.

I do have a spare laptop as a matter of fact Mike. I'll check that route out too. If this way turns out to be too unreliable I'll consider it. I'm building a cluster and wanted to use ethernet booting as much as practical. I have 9 Pi in the cluster so far with 4 more Zeroes to add. I also have an O...

Re: Pi 3 Network Boot won't work. Driving me nuts.

...Then simplify your network topology (up to a simple direct link) and check you hear the Pi looking for a server. If you hear nothing, power it down, wait a bit ... etc. Jeez, I am embarrassed! I never heard the term "network topology" until now and can only guess what that means. I have a router...

Pi 3 Network Boot won't work. Driving me nuts.

Hello, I've followed the "Network Boot Your Raspberry Pi" tutorial precisely repeatedly but just can't get it to boot my Pi 3 client. This is the second full evening I've spent trying, so I decided I'd better finally ask for help. I am using two Pi 3s on my local area network. I started this activit...

Re: Raspbian Stretch: Wifi not starting on boot

I would advise a centralized, public issue-tracking and resolution mechanism which is meticulously monitored and maintained by technical staff. We search there first to see if a particular issue has been reported (e.g. Wifi connections under Stretch) and if a resolution has yet been sanctioned by t...

Unbelievable and unacceptable the Foundation somehow allowed these issues to flood us. I still can't get my Zero to bloody connect to wifi correctly on a static IP after hours of chasing rabbits! I don't know how the upgrade to Stretch was "managed" for wifi connection -- but I'd say somebody deser...

Re: Will the Pi 2 run Varnish 4?

Trying to locate where I got the incorrect information about AMD64 on the Pi 2 so I can post for others to avoid...it came from a credible enough appearing source. Somehow I came across it while struggling all day with Varnish 4 and googling for assistance.

Will the Pi 2 run Varnish 4?

According to Varnish-cache.org's website, Varnish 4.0 on up requires AMD64 architecture, which I believe the Pi 2 has but not Pi 1. Varnish 3.+ doesn't require AMD64, but 4.0 had some important improvements so I want to upgrade my site from 3.0.2 to 4.0.3 if I can. Could somebody please clarify the ...

Using Varnish Dashboard with Varnish?

Hi all. I've been fiddling with a Varnish 3.0.6 install for awhile now and believe it is working, and very well. But sometimes my pages (http://www.CarLoversJournal.com) display almost instantaneously and sometime with a several seconds wait. I'm trying to zero in on why and in general to monitor Va...

WordPress plugin - EWWW Image Optimizer

Has anybody successfully installed this plugin? It uses jpegtran, optipng, gifsicle and others but I've exhausted all the author's directions for getting those three installed. Re: Turn-key WordPress Server Image - PressPi

As to this image: There are a lot of people that just do not have the time to start from zero and get a WordPress site up and running. So this image allows them to use a Raspberry Pi and they will still learn something from doing it. Installing WordPress on a RasPi is not as easy as installing it i...

"Mystery" resolved. I had typed "apt-get install" instead of "apt-get update". It said nothing to install. Then I did "apt-get upgrade", which said nothing to install or upgrade. Re: Apt-get install php5 problems

Uh, I'm not that much of a noobie. That was the first thing I did, then repeated twice. I have in my SSH log if you don't believe me. However I repeated the apt-get update now and the install worked. Maybe there is an apt-get update lag across the big pond on the way to Thailand?

Not NOOBS on my SD, in fact I noticed there was a new Raspbian image released on the 24th so I loaded that and did everything one more time from scratch. Got the same nasty warning.
