is my wifi card messed up?

I was setting up the wifi for my RasPi using these two tutorials (I generally follow 2 tutorials to verify that there is uniformity in the process.... gives me a little stronger sense of security seeing as how i'm a noob to code an dhave no idea what i'm doing). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj2m2...

Re: Finally got the RasPi up and working. Now what?

I'm interested in the good kind of hacking. White hat i think it's called? So no worries. i just love learning ...

Finally got the RasPi up and working. Now what?

I'm a total noob when it comes to coding, electronics, open source, programming, hacking, etc... I got the RasPi cuz i saw it in some magazine and thought it would be a great way for me to finally get into the aforementioned hobbies. I've spent the last few days going crazy trying to get my Pi to bo...

Re: raspian won't boot

Start with the usual questions. What does the Green ACT LED do when you power up? Flash once, stay dark, glow faintly, flash a number of times in a repeating pattern? That will tell if the Pi is booting up at all. Assuming it is booting correctly (LED comes on for a second or so, goes out for a bit...

Re: Complete noob to coding here, trying to setup HDMI confi

I am also a noob and have installed several OS over the last few weeks and thinking back to the first time I remember that I too was faced with a blank screen for what seemed to be a long time. I think I reinstalled the OS and tried again. I got the same blank screen but this time I waited longer a...

This is what can be found inside my config.txt file: # uncomment if you get no picture on HDMI for a default "safe" mode #hdmi_safe=1 # uncomment this if your display has a black border of unused pixels visible # and your display can output without overscan #disable_overscan=1 # uncomment the follow...

Re: Setting up HDMI output

This is an important post from 'rpi_newbie' (our Broadcom HDMI expert) which tells you how to set up the Raspberry-Pi HMDI output. I am repeating it here. At some point this information might move to a different place (e.g. elinux WIKI page) but for now I am putting it here and making it sticky. He...

Complete noob to coding here, trying to setup HDMI config

I haven't mentioned before (maybe) that when i say i'm a beginner, i mean that your answer that say things like "oh, just boot the config file from a proper terminal using the sudo startx" or something that sounds like that is absolutely Greek to me. I don't know what you're saying. I realize this m...

Re: Following the Guide but i STILL can't boot :(

I've just downloaded NOOBS. It appears the top-level folder has been removed, so that confusion should have disappeared. THIS was my reply: so you went through the whole process from scratch and its working fine for you? Where did you download noobs from? cuz just last night i was downloading it fr...

Re: Trouble installing :(

I should add that I went a head and reformatted the card (properly FAT32 using the links provided in this website) and re-booted the card, except this time i installed Alpha instead of Raspian (thinking it might be a software problem with Raspian). Same issue. Once I finish download, the screen jump...

Re: Hey Quickstart: WHICH file am i supposed to unzip?

so i THOUGHT my problems were over. after installing 100% of Raspian, the screen reverted to its blank state, but this time pressing 1 or 2 for the HDMI modes isn't doing anything.

I just wanna use my Pi already  :(

Trouble installing :(

I got my new RasPi. I went through the quickstart. The NOOBS screen came up and i selected to install Raspian (Reccomended). It prompted me that it would write over "all other data" or something like that and it gave me the options "ok" or "Cancel" so i chose OK, and the installation began. I starte...

Re: Hey Quickstart: WHICH file am i supposed to unzip?

So, uhhhh...... the answer was i did indeed have to copy the files from within th efolder, rather than the folder itself, and then "Press 2" for safe mode. I did that and the GUI went up beautifully.

Yup. Feelin kinda dumb, lol. Oh well. Maybe this will help someone else!

Hey Quickstart: WHICH file am i supposed to unzip?

I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to begin using my Pi, and it's probably due to my noobiness (that's a word, right?). The Quickstart guide says in Step 4: Unzip the downloaded file, and in Step 5 it says "Copy the extracted files onto the SD Card you just formatted." Seems simple enough, howe...

First off, thank all of you for your input. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Moving on - I'm going to check the wiki, going down the list of possible issue to see if i run across my issue. Following the Guide but i STILL can't boot :(

1. When I got my kit from element 14, it included a preloaded card. I looked up various instructions for starting and they all mentioned a step which involved formatting the card, then loading software onto it. I don't understand why I would have to do all that on a card that's supposed to be preloa...
