I have this same problem. Did you get anywhere with this? I got this far that you have to configure your gamepad (xbox wired in my case) in the gpsp GUI itself. What I did was CD into the gpSP directory in terminal ( retropie/emulators/gpsp/raspberrypi ) and then run "./gpsp". From there pressing B ...
