Thanks for the explanation, that's exactly what I'd been confused about.

Re: info-beamer for PI - A digital signage player and more..

Yep, it's purely for debugging.

What's the correct term I should be using for when something is output to a screen but not output onto a remote desktop connection? It'd hard to google solutions when I don't know what it's called.

Re: info-beamer for PI - A digital signage player and more..

I'm running a pi headless and connecting via either SSH or RDP (using CoRD on a mac). Is there any way to get the display to show via either of these remote access methods? Or will it literally only output to the connected HDMI device? I was hoping with RDP that it'd show up on the desktop but it do...

Yep, that's the cable I'd also seen and referred to above.

I'm basically just wondering what (if any) benefits this has over SSH over a network.

Re: Console Adapter vs SSH over Wifi?

Could you elaborate on point 4? I think that's maybe my real question :-)

I've seen you can get USB console adapters which negate your points 1-3 as they plug directly into a PC but it's point 4 that I don't fully understand the significance of.

Console Adapter vs SSH over Wifi?

Could someone please explain how a "console adapter" such as http://www.openelectrons.com/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=49 is different to accessing the pi over SSH via wifi? Is the only benefit of the adapter that it doesn't require wifi or is there something else I'm m...

Re: MNT Windows Share

I have the same issue (root can write to the directory fine but my "pi" user can't).

This is what I have in my fstab:

//192.168.0.3/pi_share /mnt/pi_share cifs defaults,rw,username=xxx,password=xxx,domain=WORKGROUP 0 0

Any idea where I'm going wrong?

Re: Night-vision wildlife camera - a few questions

Thanks, I found both of those but neither really talk about how much illumination is needed outside at night.

I wanted to try to avoid something that needed a separate power supply (and really any soldering as well) but looks like that might not be possible.

Thanks again :-)

Camera Streaming To Browser?

I'm currently following this guide here: http://www.mybigideas.co.uk/RPi/RPiCamera/ and it works ok but I've seen various mentions of new drivers (the uv4l stuff for example). Is this still the best way to stream the camera feed to a browser? raspivid -o - -t 0 |cvlc -v stream:///dev/stdin --sout '#...

Night-vision wildlife camera - a few questions

I basically wanted to combine the night-vision birdbox tutorial with the PIR motion detector to set up a wildlife night-vision camera. A couple of questions: 1) Is 1 IR LED enough to illuminate a typical outdoor scene? 2) As there are 2 5V GPIO pins, I assume I can use one of these for the LED and o...

Re: Case for Model B "Rev 1"?

The PiBow (coupe version at least) requires the mounting hole next to the USB stack.

Lots of the cases don't make it clear though :-(

Case for Model B "Rev 1"?

I've got a couple of old original Model Bs and wanted to get cases for them but it seems a lot of the cases (like the PiBow) are for the "rev 2" which has hole next to the USB ports which the original did not.

Can anyone recommend any cases that'll fit the first generation ones?

Cheers

Re: .HELP. Camera Stream

As of 2015 HTML5 browsers still don't have support for video/MP2T, so you can use a flash player or vlc plugin. http://www.mybigideas.co.uk/RPi/RPiCamera/ Doing this I get the following error: [email protected] ~ $ raspivid -o - -t 0 |cvlc -v stream:///dev/stdin --sout '#rtp{sdp=rtsp://:8554/}' :demu...

Pi as a self-contained unit?

Just looking for a bit of advice. I've just read about the NoIR camera and I have a few raspberry pis lying around doing nothing so ...

Re: Any in UK get there's from CPC ?

I ordered on Tuesday from CPC and it arrived this morning and came well-packaged in a large box with lots of padding :-) Only issue is that I ordered 2 (and ordered from CPC as it let you add more than 1 to the basket) but it seems that "their system only allows one item through" despite it allowing...

Re: SSH won't start - error running do_ssh

Sorry, they're meant to be run separately

ssh-keygen -t 'dsa'
ssh-keygen -t 'rsa'

and you need to overwrite the keys already there

Re: SSH won't start - error running do_ssh

I'm fairly sure it shutdown fine, it didn't complain about anything.

/var/log/regen_ssh_keys.log is empty

Also if i try and go the the SSH option in raspi-config it still says that it's trying to generate the keys.

Ok the pi's been running for over a day now and it raspi-config still says that the ssh key generation is still running.

Looks like something's gone wrong :-(
