Re: Covid mask screen for accessibility.

Just spent the last few days shouting at my deaf ma-in law. Think a speech to text mask has a use still!

Covid mask screen for accessibility.

Sorry if this is out of order but I'd like to find a light weight see through screen (lcd or e-reader) that I can fit into a covid mask over the mouth and connect to a Pi Zero so people can lip read through it, or failing that messages can be scrolled on it. Just the germ of an idea at the moment bu...

Re: lazarus install

I've installed it on a Pi Zero with "sudo apt-install lazarus' which install all fp etc. It seems to work on the Pi under Raspbian if a little slow by todays standards and I've only tested it on simple examples so far. I do get warninga of crtbegin.o and crtend.o "not found this will probably cause ...

Well they could be added to the information archive on the system. Ideally they need to be open-source/open-hardware and open-document - not that laws may apply after an event that makes this necessary.

Carrington Event Machine

With the Corona Virus epidemic running riot I have returned to address the possibility of it all going badly wrong and am thinking a Carrington Event Machine project might be a good idea after all. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_storm_of_1859 for the naming of the project. In the case of a ...

Nano-X

I've just rediscovered http://www.microwindows.org/ which is a very lightweight GUI which I think some of you may find very useful on something like a Zero where the standard desktop can eat a bit too much RAM at times!

FYI there appear to be images for Pi 1,2 and 3 here: https://files.devuan.org/devuan_jessie/embedded/ and the version for the 3 seems to be 64bit!

Multiple GPUs for AI/number crunching.

There has been some good work done on getting the GPU to do some serious number crunching and I was just wondering if a future version of the Pi could possibly include multiple GPUs for extra processing? We really need to get kids into AI as well as programming and this may be a cheaper more acessib...

Re: Pip or Pip3 on RasPi Zero W is painfully slow

I was just installing Tensorflow onto my Pi3B+ and idly followed the instruction to 'pip3 -V' and it took a full 7 seconds to return the version detail. I tried again with the same result. On my i7 laptop the same command takes a noticeable amount of time to return - less than a second but a definit...

Re: ARM NN and Machine Learning - Boost building

I've managed to kill mine a few times - it may throttle down but it still seems to overheat and sometimes I have to power off to get it back. I'm trying to make a list of instructions for people to easily build this so I'm taking it from file and the second attempt worked - with the same command lin...

Re: ARM NN and Machine Learning - Boost building

No not a typo - I used the same string to run it a second time. I've got a new 3b+ and I've been rebuilding several things on it and seems to get a bit hot from time to time! I re-ran the above command and it compiled all bar 80 (out of near 6000) targets before overheating again. I need to knock up...

Cancel that - retried the .\b2 link=static cxxflags=-fPIC --with-filesystem --with-test --with-log --with-program_options
and its running OK now! Probably need to add sudo to it to install properly
And I used the shell command I used earlier - hot cpu?

ARM NN and Machine Learning - Boost building

I've been looking at https://developer.arm.com/products/processors/machine-learning/arm-nn and the got has a readme that gives some instructions on how to build and then get Caffe running. I've got to the point where I am trying to build Boost and the instructions on https://developer.arm.com/techno...

Re: OpenCL on the VideoCore IV!

spinoza1791 Caffe has an openCL port https://github.com/BVLC/caffe/tree/opencl so this may work with that.
I'm busy with other stuff but will try this asap. I'd be interested to see if there are any thermal issues with this.

Building Python3.6.2 with optimizations

If I try configuring python3.6.2 with --enable-optimisations and this causes it to segfault gcc during make.
It seems to build OK with a plain ./configure and make.
The error recommends a full bug report - has anyone also had this?

Re: My Raspberry Pi class

Thanks Major Tom. One thing you may find useful is Zim desktop wiki - its quite useful for putting together ideas and lessons and, if you can connect all your pi's together with some form of networking then you can set it up as a little internet server which is handy for some kids who can work at di...

Re: M$ announces ARM emulator soon

What should be worrying for MS users is why MS cant get their programs to run on ARM with a simple recompile. There's something in deep in a binary that has to be run on Intel as they no longer know what it does otherwise they'd have re-written it in ARM rather than emulate an Intel machine on the A...

Pixel and wandering mouse cursor.

Probably pushing the envelope here: Having had much success on the Zero with PIXEL I thought I'd try in on an old 256MB A (?) and upgraded from raspbian lite with sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-ui-mods and it nearly works. You have to leave it for a while after it comes up and then if you take you...
