Re: RSYNC with DAY and MONTH in destination folder

I made another small script, entered exactly as above echo "today is" 'date' and received the following: Today is date Because you used single quotes, not back-ticks. @rpdom: I wasn't aware that back-ticks are now depreciated. They still work on mine. bash --version GNU bash, version 4.3.42(1)-rele...

Re: RSYNC with DAY and MONTH in destination folder

If you want the Bash shell to expand a command including another command, use back-ticks. These are usually on the same key as the tilde ~.

example:

Code: Select all

#! /bin/bash
#
echo "Today is" `date`

You cannot back-up a running system  If you want a backup of a working system, copy the contents of the SD card to a file on a separate PC. If you want to store important data from a running system, use rsync to copy the contents to another medium, like NAS, USB stick or said extra PC :)

Re: Need High Accuracy Electronic Target using triangulation

As you're well versed in micro-controllers, have a look at the Arduino Due . IMO this might just be what you need, as it's the fastest proc in the Arduino family (84MHz clock) and with 12 analogue inputs an increased accuracy by having more microphones is possible. Hook up a large TFT screen and you...

Re: Code Obtain RSSI from raspberry3

You need to redirect the output of the program to a file, so it can be stored until you can process it. I'm not familiar with the tool but in general you should be able to do this (experiment a bit and study the various man pages!) bluetoothctl scan on > rssi.txt This redirects the output of the sca...

Kernel mismatch between the RPi and your work machine? Test bulding the program on the RPi itself, this way you can deduct if the error is related to the cross-compiling. It narrows down your search by 50%!

Re: customizing Rpi for sell

Install the build-essential package for a tool chain. IDE's aplenty, if you know where to look. Hint: Synaptics. Compiling stuff on the RPi is indeed frustratingly slow, investigate cross-compiling on the x86-64 platform (i.e. your desktop) One more thing: because you're making money from your produ...

Re: Things I never want to see on a Raspberry Pi

The E96 range has 60 available :P In any case, the RPi BCM chip (whichever one it is) may run on 3V3, it's still powered from a 5V USB port. Use an open collector pin and it doesn't matter anymore which voltage the LED is connected to. Replacing the "power on" led with an RGB one would be a nice fea...

Makkelijk e...

Set the file permissions for stuff owned by user1 to 744. This allows the owner to see/change and execute files and programs in that directory, but others (even if member of the same group) can only see it. If access is restricted only to group members, use 740 for file permissions*. Urgently consid...

Re: ARRGGH Power cuts.

There's another alternative: use PXE. In other words, the OS is not on the SD card, but stored as image on a 3rd device. The RPi only needs some propitiatory files in RO mode on the SD card to boot. The PXE environment then loads via the network and runs in RAM. Said 3rd device can be a simple Penti...

Re: Network going down because of Raspberry

There's only one reason why this behaviour exposes itself, and that's that the RPi has the same IP address as the router, which I assume also has the DHCP server. Reconfigure the RPi so it gets another IP address from the router.
