Re: Converting from rpi2 to rpi3?

Oh and you can power a rpi3 from the USB ports again (discovered by accident after a shutdown -r instead shutdown -h).

Re: Converting from rpi2 to rpi3?

For the record, here's how I updated my rpi2 to rpi3: sudo rpi-update (it downloaded 4.1.19-v7+ this time, previously 4.1.18-v7+) sudo cp /boot/kernel7.img /boot/kernel7.img-4.1.19-v7+ (optional) sudo update-imitramfs -c -k 4.1.19-v7+ (optional) update /boot/config.txt to point at the kernel and ini...

[solved] Converting from rpi2 to rpi3?

Hi all So I have two shiny new rpi3, and I want to update my existing rpi2 devices. My OSMC was easy, just swap the SD card from the rpi2 to the rpi3 and it worked out of the box. But how can I get my raspbian SD card working in the rpi3? It's currently booting using the default raspbian kernel (lin...

Re: The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Q&A thread

Does anyone know if there is a graphics upgrade and support for HEVEC x265 playback as this article suggests there is? http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/02/raspberry-pi-3-has-wi-fi-and-bluetooth-64-bit-chip-still-just-35/ The VideoCore IV chip is identical, so no hardware HEVC/x265...

What does “custom-hardened” mean in this context?

Re: raspian-ua-netinst jessie: won't boot after rpi-update

Aha. root=LABEL=/ and root=UUID= both require initramfs. http://unix.stackexchange.com/a/93777/95975 "If you want to use a filesystem UUID, I guess you need an initramfs that can handle mounting filesystems by UUID." http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/svn/postlfs/initramfs.html : "There are o...

Re: raspian-ua-netinst jessie: won't boot after rpi-update

You could also just remove the kernel/initramfs lines from /boot/config.txt then it will take the default kernel, which is updated by rpi-update. That's what I did. It wouldn't boot without an initramfs. Open an issue here: https://github.com/debian-pi/raspbian-ua-netinst I don't think it's a probl...

raspian-ua-netinst jessie: won't boot after rpi-update

Hi all I'm writing this post because I couldn't find any instructions on how to fix this, and had to figure it out myself. I have two rpi's running raspian jessie installed using raspbian-ua-netinst. They both work fine using the default kernel (linux-image-3.12-1-rpi) and firmware (raspberrypi-boot...

Re: Class 10 vs Class 4 sd cards

I want to get a class 10 since I'm under the impression the pi would run faster but I would like to know if there is actually any difference? The answer is "Maybe yes, maybe no". The reason is that SD "class" ratings are determined mostly by measuring large sequential writes, and that is exactly wh...
