Re: Call for beta testers: FIQ_FSM USB driver rewrite

For what it's worth, the FIQ driver seems to have gotten better. I tried PulseAudio configured to use two fragments of 5 ms and I don't get any underruns, while the integrated sound card is unusable.

So good job and thanks!

Re: Call for beta testers: FIQ_FSM USB driver rewrite

Load average is not necessarily related to CPU usage. See https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/issues/46, which caused it to increase by 3.

On the other hand, I don't think CPU usage should be higher. I might also be seeing some similar effects, but I can't really prove it.

I still have to dropouts issues (bad FM sound) even in NEXT branch. I've tried dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_enable=1 dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_mask=0x7 When I revert to an old NEXT (around April 15th) the issue disappear. Re: Call for beta testers: FIQ_FSM USB driver rewrite

vmstat shows a large swing in interrupt numbers for half of that listing (~300 -> ~2000). What happened in that time? Ah, sorry. That's where I started playback. I also stopped the playback a bit before the end. vmstat with the working version gives similar numbers: procs -----------memory---------...

What is the output of vmstat 2 when the network drops? Can you dump a copy of your sdcard image on a PC and post a link to dropbox? Please see my updated post above. I can try to test with the standard Raspbian image, if you think it's something specific to my installation. However my sound problem...

Re: Call for beta testers: FIQ_FSM USB driver rewrite

For the record, I still get dropouts in d02c615ea7. Network and other USB devices seem to work fine and the Pi doesn't crash as in the first versions after the 3.12 merge. If it helps, they are periodic (a few times a second) and not related to network activity. I've also unbound the HID endpoint of...

Re: Call for beta testers: FIQ_FSM USB driver rewrite

Getting kevent 2 spam is orthogonal to dropped audio packets. I know; I actually increased vm.min_free_kbytes enough so that I keep turbo_mode set. However, that problem causes the network to temporarily stop functioning, so I wanted to point out that I'm encountering a different issue. I don't hav...

On the other hand, audio playback is now a mess (dropouts, probably) even with dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_mask=0x3, starting with 31a8f3f12cce94e3d35bb520bb8f6f2f9119c6d5 (April 17th).

Patch inbound should fix this and the Concept rowing machine monitor, which uses the same transport. I can't boot this version either (Arch, no external devices connected). You could try unbinding the USBHID module from your DAC and see if that improves matters. This seems to do it. I'm not getting any more NYET warnings (although I've not tried stressing it too much). It's using an interval of 10 ms, which is equal to my ALSA fragment size. Interface Descriptor: bLen...

Thank you for the detailed description. In my case, the second type of NYET packet e...

Re: Call for beta testers: FIQ_FSM USB driver rewrite

The underlying bug causing a vast majority of "FIQ reported NYET" failure cases is that Linux is accidentally disabling FIQs due to an odd combination of several things - namely stale processor state that was saved when a thread that was started before USB was brought up (i.e. early in boot) went t...

Re: Call for beta testers: FIQ_FSM USB driver rewrite

On the USB side, it's got transmission-daemon, an external hard-drive connected through a hub and a USB sound card outputting continuously. On the CPU side, there's an app that polls a GPIO pin quite often and rrdtool making some graphs.

I mention that I never got a crash like this before.
