Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I don't personally have much experience with RPi sound devices, but perhaps of some of this information can help you:

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

Thanks for the feedback. @chme is the master of mpd in forked-daapd, so I will leave it to him to look into your observations. With regard to playlists, they should not be removed, even if they are not available. So I would need more details to know what is going on. Perhaps you can add an issue her...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I have uploaded a new release, which is version 27.1.103.git51b7a88. List of changes: - use artwork from Spotify for non-Spotify tracks and radio stations (requires Spotify premium) - support for playlist folders - support for alternative Musicbrainz Album Id tag (MUSICBRAINZ_ALBUMID) - fix for cont...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

The issue is this: "Could not VACUUM database: attempt to write a readonly database"

So you have probably configured forked-daapd to run as a user that does not have write access to /var/cache/forked-daapd

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I have made another release (27.1.102). It is mostly to bring the version up to 27.1, so compared to the last release it just has some improvements to the web ui.

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I've uploaded release 27.0.101 of forked-daapd to the repository. It mainly has bug fixes, e.g.: - an issue with shairport-sync causing too many open files - log limitation to avoid repeated messages creating huge logs - error if a genre had a single quote in its name - incorrect update of time_adde...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

Thanks for the kind words! I'm not aware of package-based way of installing a newer forked-daapd on Ubuntu, unfortunately. I did consider setting up a ppa, and I think @chme considered making a snap, but I think neither of us got around to it.

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

This line means that the device did not reply to the announce request made by forked-daapd: [2019-12-19 17:48:19] [ LOG] raop: ANNOUNCE request failed in session startup: 0 (null) If you don't mind tinkering with this, then you can try some modifications to raop.c in the source code of forked-daapd....

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

Maybe it's the same device as in this github issue ? If so, you can see my attempt to make it work didn't succeed. If you can set the log to debug you are welcome to add the failure part of the log to the issue. Maybe it has some clues? Btw, those cheap commercial airplay devices don't always suppor...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

Is it possible that you have an error in the config file? I think that might show the symptoms you describe. To find out, you can run "sudo /usr/sbin/forked-daapd -f" Then you should get the reason forked-daapd can't start. It seems config file errors don't get written to the log file, which isn't p...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I think that you have multiple versions of forked-daapd installed. Both the log and the fact that changing log level doesn't work are indications of that. See this issue: https://github.com/ejurgensen/forked-daapd/issues/843 I recommend you clean up and then install forked-daapd as per the instructi...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I've made a new release of the RPi build, it is version number 27.0.100.git5ac3a27. It has a fix for Apple Music on Catalina, but other than that the release is mostly to bring the RPi build up to version 27.0.

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

Yes, Apple Music on Catalina doesn't work with current forked-daapd. However, I'm optimistic that I can fix it. You can follow progress here: https://github.com/ejurgensen/forked-daapd/issues/785

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

The debs in my repository are compiled natively, since I am not strong with cross-compilation. I am also not strong on the difference between Debian’s armhf and arm64, and whether there is a simple way to build arm64 packages on an RPi. So I wouldn’t know how to go about making arm64 packages. So ma...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I haven't directly changed pipe_autostart, but I have made other changes to the pipe module, so it is possible that the bug comes from that. It would be helpful if you could open an issue on github.com/ejurgensen/forked-daapd with a log extract where the log level is set to debug. That way I can see...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

I've made a new release of the RPi build, its version number is 26.5.84.git547222e. It has: 1. Fix for CPU issue reported by @marco79 2. Support for Shairport artwork via pipe (doesn't work with web UI yet, however) 3. Configurable mp3 streaming quality 4. New JSON api for toggling speakers 5. Web U...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

The format of the metadata pipe may not be as complicated as it could appear. You would create an xml document, and then have <item> structures for each kind of metadata (artist, album etc.). Each item consists of: type -> value doesn’t matter to forked-daapd code -> 4 byte hex that tells forked-daa...

You can read about pipes here: https://ejurgensen.github.io/forked-daapd/#library

The format of the metadata is documented here: https://github.com/mikebrady/shairport- ... ata-reader

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

As much as I like Radio Paradise, I won't add stuff that is just for one radio station. I'm not that into flac format, but I'm surprised there isn't some standard way of conveying metadata that they can use. A possible other alternative: forked-daapd can already read metadata from a pipe, but curren...

Re: Improved forked-daapd (iTunes server)

Yes it is always possible that Remote pairing becomes broken via an Apple update. I can’t test myself right now, but perhaps someone else can say if it is working for them or not. Otherwise I will test it in a weeks time.
