I didn't know this was a common problem. Maybe it comes up often because it happens often and it's not obvious what terms to search for.

SD card capacity oddity

Hello, I tried backing up my RPi SD card (a 8GB) as an image, using Win32DiskImager. The image file was very suspicious, only 128MB. So I thought...well, let's try restoring the image on a different SD card. I took out a 16GB SD card, and used SDformatter to format it, then used Win32DiskImager to w...

how to install a database - rrd4j, db4o?

Hi,
I haven't been able to find any instructions for installing either rrd4j or db4o on a raspberry pi. Is this something someone here has done, and can give some help?

For both databases, it looks like you have to compile it from source? Is there another way?

Re: Interface w/ RFM69W wireless module via SPI?

This is intended for use on the server side - not the device side. Yes, plenty of examples of the RFM69 used with Arduinos. But on the server side, I'd like to use the RPi to receive the wireless transmissions and put this data on a webpage w/ data logging. I was hoping there is a library available ...

Interface w/ RFM69W wireless module via SPI?

I'm looking around for a way to interface the Raspberry Pi with a RFM69W or RFM69HW 915MHz wireless module. This module uses the SPI interface. I haven't found any examples around.

Thanks for any input!

RPi and Arduinos for Home Automation and monitoring

Hello, I've come across a couple of platforms that use Arduinos for field sensor nodes and RPi as the web applications server, where the Arduinos communicate with the RPi wirelessly using 433MHz modules or the nRF24L01's. A smartphone app or webbrowser can view the status of sensors and actuate swit...

Re: Transmitter for 433.92MHz

What library are you going to use? And what about the receiver end for these? I've seen these used a lot before the nRF24L01 became popular, but with Arduinos. The Arduinos have a library called the "virtualwire" library, which made these 433MHz modules really easy to use. Is there a similar library...

XBMC on Pi - best place for media - USB drive or NAS?

Knowing that there are some hardware compromises with the Raspberry Pi having to share the ethernet and USB bandwidth, I was wondering where is the best place for video library? On a USB drive connected directly to the Rpi? Or on the NAS connected to the same network? By "best", I mean minimizing th...

viewing webcam stream

Hi,
Is there a way to view a webcam stream on my TV with the RPi? On windows, firefox will view mjpeg streams. But the browsers on Raspbian can't handle mjpeg streams. Any programs from the repository that would do this?

I basically just need to point it to the IP:port address.

Thanks!

Installing RetroPi (EmulatorStation) alongside NOOBS

Hello, I'm fishing around for a way to install the Retro Pie image along side the NOOBS image. I really like the multiboot feature of NOOBS, but also like the way RetroPi image boots right into emulator station without having to use a keyboard. With NOOBS, I use XBMC a lot, and it's usually the last...

Raspbmc plays everything - but doesn't need MPEG2 license?

Hello, I thought I would need to buy a license to play much of the video files I have, but I was surprised that it's been able to play all files so far, and pretty smoothly. I have a pretty big mix of files, but I admit I don't know much about codecs. Here's the mix I think I have: MKV's w/ DTS audi...

[solved] a 16GB SD card only shows up as a 1.2GB

Hello, I'm a total newbie to Raspberry Pi. I followed the standard instructions to prepare a 16GB SD card: 1) used SDcard.org's formatting tool 2) extracted the NOOBS zip file and copied the contents onto the SD card. After playing with Raspbian and Raspbmc, I wanted to start over. To my surprise, t...

Followup -
The circuit above that uses a buffer IC of NPN transistors, do you need to add some resistors to the input and ground, more like this link?

GPIO to SainSmart 4-channel relay board, transistors needed?

Hi, There are a lot of posts out there about how the Sainsmart 4 or 8 channel 5V relay should not be used directly from the Raspberry Pi. Many people use NPN transistors in between the relay module and the RPi. And there are also people who wire the RPi directly to the Sainsmart relay and saids it w...

I've got 2 webcams on my Pi now. Easy enough to do, just configure motion.conf with all the general settings, uncomment thread1.conf and thread2.conf down the bottom and put the cam specific settings in thread1 and thread2.conf Lagz, I'm trying to do two webcams, but haven't gotten it to work so fa...

Apparently, the raspberry pi community has done this with a variety of different methods. A couple involving using the darkice program. I'll probably abandon trying use ArchLinuxArm then.

raspberry pi audio baby monitor

I have a couple of USB webcams with pretty good mics. Has anyone tried using these USB webcams as audio baby monitors? For ArchLinux, the Motion program works pretty well for video streaming. But I haven't yet found a program on ArchLinux that runs audio streaming off of a USB webcam's microphone. I...

Re: Video baby monitor software

Has anyone gotten the microphone on a USB webcam to work with the Raspberry Pi? I'd like to make an audio baby monitor (I don't need the video part), and just use a spare Android phone as the audio output. But the criteria would be similar to the OP's: the audio monitor should start by itself after ...

"Motion" webcam program - ignore moving trees

I've been using "Motion" for linux as a security webcam. It's nice, but I do get a lot of false detection. They occur mostly in two forms (1) During day time, swaying plants and trees, and sun/cloudy conditions (2) During night time, dim lighting outdoor causes false detection For (1), I'm think the...
