Re: Best OS for Video Streaming? (No LibreELEC)

You can get 1080p video from Netflix in Kodi. As widevine is a software decoder, you may get occasional frame drops on a Pi4, but most programs play fine. You can manually choose 720p which plays fine on a Pi3 or a Pi4. Note: there has been a recent change to Widevine that requires an update to Libr...

Re: Best OS for Video Streaming? (No LibreELEC)

Kodi (of which LibreELEC is the main distribution) is almost certainly the best choice if it supports the sources you need.
It looks like there is a F1 TV addon
Kodi also support widevine sources such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Re: Pi 4B: get_throttled not reporting thermal throttling

When the core temperature is between 80°C and 85°C, a warning icon showing a red half-filled thermometer will be displayed, and the ARM cores will be progressively throttled back. This appears to be what you are seeing in log. When temperature hits 80'C we start throttling, and you get the 0x20000 ...

Yes, I can confirm it works on Pi3. It still uses HDMI-A-1:
Added:

Code: Select all

drm.edid_firmware=edid/myedid.dat video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080@60D
with no hdmi connected and

Code: Select all

sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/state

Re: Configure full-KMS for headless X11 access

That's annoying. I was under the impression that a being able to read the edid overrode the lack of hotpug.
And I hoped a custom edid would count.

But you are right, it doesn't work as hoped. Any idea how to override hotplug?

Re: Configure full-KMS for headless X11 access

When using kms, firmware settings for controlling hdmi will have no effect (firmware is not in control of hdmi). I think you can do this with cmdline.txt settings. e.g. capture your edid when monitor is connected and booted with kms: sudo cp /sys/devices/platform/gpu/drm/card0/card0-HDMI-A-1/edid /l...

Re: Playing movies from external hard drive

Would LibreELEC/Kodi cope with this ok? I'd like the interface to be as simple as possible. I've also heard that PLEX or OSMC could work but they look like they're focussed on streaming options. Does anyone have any experience with these? Kodi is the application. LibreELEC and OSMC are distribution...

Re: Can't force disable of 4K

I think I need to understand a little better what hdmi_ignore_edid does in combination (and without) hdmi_max_pixel_freq. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions! It doesn't read your edid, but instead uses a "default" one, that happens to support 1080p60 but no 4k resolutions. It's not a...

Re: Can't force disable of 4K

Are you booting to desktop?
If so then using the preferences/screen configuration tool to choose 1080p mode is the easiest solution.

You can't run widevine on 64-bit arm, and that is needed for Netflix.
I believe Ubuntu Desktop 20.10 is 64-bit.

It is possible on 32-bit RPiOS or 32-bit versions of Ubuntu.

Can you try with audio_pwm_mode=1 in config.txt?

What is the status of FIQ at the moment? I got my CM4 today and am using the 64 bit kernel.
There is no FIQ support (upstream) for arm64 kernel.
That is typically not an issue as the dwc_otg driver is not used on Pi4.
The upstream, non-FIQ dwc2 driver is available.

Re: HDMI0 horizontal shift Rpi 4B, Ubuntu 20.04.2 Desktop 64-bit

This is a well know issue of kms driver (e.g. in the known issues here.
It was a problem with fkms driver when Pi4 originally launched, but it's been fixed there.
It is being worked on with kms driver, but it's proving tricky to eradicate.

Re: Libreelec does not support ARM 64-bit?

It can be built for 64-bit (both kernel and userland) and acceleration is supported.
But you lose access to widevine (so no netflix/amazon/etc), so it's not planned to be used in default builds.

I've had some problems on my RP3B+ (plain Raspberry Pi OS). Sound is choppy on audio jack if I set the resolution to 720p on different sites.... If I set the resolution to 480p on YouTube the choppiness disappears. In this thread we're looking into issues that have appeared in a recent 5.10 kernel/...

64-bit RPiOS currently has no video decode acceleration. Firefox has no video decode acceleration. Chromium does. You won't be be able to decode and display 4K video in a browser under X (the overheads are too great). Something like Kodi or VLC (running full screen) will be able to play 4K video smo...

If it happens again, I'll report back. Meanwhile, dmesg continues with the bcm2835-related messages.
