Re: RPi 4: ALSA says HDMI device doesn't support 24-bit?

The kms driver has more functionality. See here . You should be able to get 24-bit pcm output. pi@pi4d:~ $ aplay dell/audio//Nums_7dot1_24_48000.wav -v --device=default --dump-hw-params Playing WAVE 'dell/audio//Nums_7dot1_24_48000.wav' : Signed 24 bit Little Endian in 3bytes, Rate 48000 Hz, Channel...

Maybe I miss something?
Yes, cec-ctl was suggested, which can take `-d /dev/cec1` as a parameter to use the other hdmi port.

Re: CPU Temperature reads 0

I tested by fudging the sensor register (not cold enough here), and /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp did report as negative as expected.
It's not been unstreamed so far, so feel free if you are willing to.

I'd say a bug (just one that is encountered by very few). I've submitted a potential fix.

problem almost solved! Now looking for ways to make it permanent, of course aside from a custom launch script.
Again, asking Batocera.linux people would be best. They very likely have a launch script that sets the governor to performance, that you would want to edit.

Probably best to ask people who make Batocera.linux.
Best guess is they aren't using the ondemand governor.
What does this show?

Code: Select all

Re: Audio from video playback in browser (Chromium) is scratchy/distorted - Raspberry 4

audio_pwm_mode=2 is the default, so won't change anything.
Try with audio_pwm_mode=1 to see if the distortion is caused by the sdm processing.

Re: After rpi-update, Boots and load kernel but black screen halfway during loading linux

Have you enabled the kms driver? It's disabled by default but is enabled in the 64-bit beta RPiOS images. That "takes over" halfway through loading linux and may be choosing a hdmi mode your display doesn't like. Can you ssh in when the display is blank? If so report output of dmesg. A des...

There's a potential fix for the 1-pixel wrap issue when using kms in latest rpi-update kernel.
If you are currently seeing this issue, then we'd be interested in reports of behaviour after updating.

Re: Best OS for Video Streaming? (No LibreELEC)

You can get 1080p video from Netflix in Kodi. As widevine is a software decoder, you may get occasional frame drops on a Pi4, but most programs play fine. You can manually choose 720p which plays fine on a Pi3 or a Pi4. Note: there has been a recent change to Widevine that requires an update to Libr...

Re: Best OS for Video Streaming? (No LibreELEC)

Kodi (of which LibreELEC is the main distribution) is almost certainly the best choice if it supports the sources you need.
It looks like there is a F1 TV addon
Kodi also support widevine sources such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

When the core temperature is between 80°C and 85°C, a warning icon showing a red half-filled thermometer will be displayed, and the ARM cores will be progressively throttled back. This appears to be what you are seeing in log. When temperature hits 80'C we start throttling, and you get the 0x20000 ...

That's annoying. I was under the impression that a being able to read the edid overrode the lack of hotpug.
And I hoped a custom edid would count.

But you are right, it doesn't work as hoped. Any idea how to override hotplug?

Re: Configure full-KMS for headless X11 access

When using kms, firmware settings for controlling hdmi will have no effect (firmware is not in control of hdmi). I think you can do this with cmdline.txt settings. e.g. capture your edid when monitor is connected and booted with kms: sudo cp /sys/devices/platform/gpu/drm/card0/card0-HDMI-A-1/edid /l...

Are you booting to desktop?
If so then using the preferences/screen configuration tool to choose 1080p mode is the easiest solution.
