Re: trouble building the distro in VirtualBox

As for the export script, check whether you have a stage3.img. I now feel like an idiot for not checking the obvious. Yes, that file is getting created and I successfully loaded it to a microSD card (used an adapter) and booted my r-pi off it. Something came up on the display; but I'm more interest...

I'm going to assume that things went well. The notes mention that 'The resulting image is bootable'. Where is this image stored? Can't find any SOMETHING.IMG files anywhere... Re: trouble building the distro in VirtualBox

Short story is that it didn't work. It's late for me and I'm going to bed, but is an internet connection always needed for the scripts to work? As in; after the first run, since the files are already downloaded, would the scripts detect that and just use them instead of making network requests? My i...

Re: trouble building the distro in VirtualBox

@asb, I rebooted my virtual-ubuntu and am trying out the modified steps. You made a minor typo mistake in the readme. Instead of, sudo ./downgrade-qemu It should be sudo ./downgrade_qemu (At least, that's the script I'm assuming you want me to try; the other one doesn't exist :P ) I can see the scri...

Re: trouble building the distro in VirtualBox

No, that doesn't seem to be it. For reference here is the output I'm seeing from running each of the scripts, > sudo ./setup_spindle_environment my_spindle_chroot [sudo] password for chronodekar: About to set up chroot in '/home/chronodekar/projects/RaspberryPi/spindle-master/my_spindle_chroot'. Ok?...

Re: trouble building the distro in VirtualBox

I tried reading the scripts line-by-line to figure out what might have gone wrong. It's a slow process, but I found 'Ubunut 10.04' in the comments. So, I downloaded that (Ubuntu server 10.4.4), installed it on another virtualbox system and tried building the image. This time, after running the first...

trouble building the distro in VirtualBox

I have Ubuntu Server (32-bit) 13.04 running in a VirtualBox system. The host OS is Win7(64-bit). After getting and loading a linux image on my r-pi, I gained a desire to build my own distribution image. By this, I'm referring to some 'my-personal-build.IMG' file that I could write to an SD card usin...

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello!

My name is Abraham V., but I go by the handle 'chronodekar' online. Didn't realize we had an introduction thread until now. I like tinkering around with Linux and figuring out how to customize it for my own needs/amusements.

Re: How to compile my own .IMG from scratch?

I think I'm running around in circles. First off here is what I'm trying to accomplish - to get linux source codes, cross-compile (targeting ARMv6 (the raspberry pi one)) running off an x86 host, generate a .img file, mount the file on an SD card and boot my pi off it. I spent some time under the 'd...

Re: How to compile my own .IMG from scratch?

I'll check out the Arch Linux ARM forum linked. But when I asked about compiling my own image, I meant from source. To over-simplify things; cd /directory-with-sources-mostly-C-program-files gcc sources I've done embedded development before, and know that we usually use Makefiles, but hope I've expr...

How to compile my own .IMG from scratch?

A lot of the tutorials I'm finding on this forum deal with creating applications to run on top of one of the existing OS's available for the Pi. But does anyone know how I could cross-compile the linux image myself? I just finished torrenting the official 'archlinux-hf-2013-06-06.img' file. Are ther...
