Raspberry Pi 4 usb power button/switch works how?

I see some places selling power supplies for the Raspberry Pi 4 with a on/off button/switch. Sometimes with an LED. Example: CanaKit USB-C PiSwitch What is the button doing exactly? Does the Pi read the button status and shutdown? Are you supposed to watch the button in code and do something when it...

Re: Clone SD card on Windows but multiple devices appear

I wanted to clone my Raspberry Pi card on Windows. Found many easy instructions on how to do it with Win32 Disk Imager. Put card in Windows, Select device, read and save. Easy. So I get Win32 Disk Imager. Insert my SD card. 3 devices show up  One is named RECOVERY. The other 2 devices/partit...

Re: Clone SD card on Windows but multiple devices appear

the SD Pi card shows as 3 devices/partitions in Win32DiskImager, what do I do? -a- windows can only see the first partition of SD card or USB stick. -b- Win32DiskImager copy drives only so make sure F: is the SD card in your card reader. if you use a multi card reader several drives might pop up bu...

Re: Clone SD card on Windows but multiple devices appear

On Windows you need a program that can read Unix/Linux file system and the copy will as large or larger than the size of the sorce sd card. The first half of that is completely untrue. A program that makes an image of a card does NOT need to be able to read Unix/Linux file systems. It reads the raw...

audioop and USB mic trouble

I'm trying to get a simple microphone volume trigger going. But I keep getting an error when I try to introduce ANY time delays beyond .001. Can anyone figure this out? The current code I'm using, based from other examples found around the net: #!/usr/bin/python import alsaaudio, time, audioop inp =...

Re: NOOBS 1.3 problem with booting OS on SanDisk 16GB Ultra

The problem only happened once for me on a Transcend Class 10 8GB.

Formatted, copied noobs stuff, blank screen.

Re formatted, re copied, then worked.

Re: NOOBS v1.3 Beta testers feedback

I have been taking the SD card out of the Pi and onto my computer just to place the autoboot.txt file in the Noobs root directory. Is there a way to put/create it via SSH :?: No but you can do it via serial. That's too bad  Then let me ask 2 questions: I've made a few noobs cards since yesterd...

Re: NOOBS 1.3 problem with booting OS on SanDisk 16GB Ultra

I made 3 noobs sd cards yesterday.

Only one had this problem. (all created on same pi for ease)

I reformatted again, placed Noobs again, then it was working.

Re: NOOBS v1.3 Beta testers feedback

About disabling the splash screen. The instructions state: " Add a text file named autoboot.txt to the root directory of NOOBS. Add boot_partition=<partition number> to the file and save it to disk." I've only installed Raspbian. What's the easiest way to find the partition number I want to boot to...

Re: Make Pi work with BOTH TVs and computer monitors?

I'm assuming you've already tried auto-detect (i.e. having no display-settings in config.txt), and that didn't work? I just tried with a fresh Noobs 1.3 Raspbian install. On the TV it defaults to 1080p no problem. On the DVI monitor it defaults to 1600x1200. After a few moments the monitor itself d...

Make Pi work with BOTH TVs and computer monitors?

I have a project where the same Pi will be used on an HDMI TV and a DVI computer monitor. Not at the same time. When I connect the Pi to an HDMI 1080p TV with these config settings: hdmi_group=1 hdmi_mode=16 Everthing is fine. But if I bring the same Pi to a DVI 1080p monitor the resolution defaults...

Re: Suggestions for version 3

My biggest problem with the Pi are the SD cards. I get errors out of nowhere far too often. Just yesterday, working on a project. Walking an SD card between a model A and model B. Always being careful. Then out of nowhere the card has tons of errors, have to stop everything and make a new card. It ...

Re: Disable NOOBS splash screen?

I do a regular install just to bypass that screen.

But I still was wondering if there was a way to disable the screen because I like NOOBS, just dislike the splash screen.

I like NOOBS because my SD cards fail so often it saves a bit of time when having to rebuild a card.

Re: Easy shutdown/restart using a toggle switch!!!?

Connected P6 to toggle switch. (using the P6 ground)
Connected GPIO with a shutdown script watching it.

Works perfect for me.

Easy shutdown and startup with a single toggle up/down momentary switch and 3 connections to Pi.

Easy shutdown/restart using a toggle switch!!!?

I did a quick search but didn't find anything on this idea. I have been wondering how to make it as easy (and inexpensive) to shutdown and startup the Pi. So does this idea work? Have a single on/off toggle switch. Have a GPIO pin with a shutdown script connected to off-toggle Have P6 header connect...

There's no way to have a background python script constantly polling the tv, looking for a shutdown message?
