Re: MQTT Javascipt client issue.

You may like Scratch, I don't. Programming should be done long hand or you learn nothing.

The NodeRed visual crap is what put me off that stuff, so I never looked at its inner workings and probably won't bother.

Re: Piface python not working anymore

Hi DougieLawson, How does the piface code determine what model of RPi your running? The 4.9.x kernel broke that code. All RPis now report BCM2835. Someone needs to fix any code that parses /proc/cpuinfo how can I determine the code? I ordered already a new pi3 and the piface because mybe hardware d...

Re: Kali Linux RPi3 Booting From USB

Apart from Fruity's sensible suggestion (because Kali isn't supported on here). The things to check for USB booting are 1. /boot/cmdline.txt 2. /etc/fstab Make sure both have the right partitions/filesystems defined for /boot and / (root) and any other's that are an essential part of the OS you're t...

Re: Problem with python script contains mysql running in rc.local

Use a systemd service file with an appropriate After clause.

Code: Select all

[Unit]
Description=database updater
After=mysql.service

[Service]
ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/db_update
StandardOutput=syslog
StandardError=syslog
SyslogIdentifier=db_update

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

What pins on the LCD are wired to what pins on your RPi? It's impossible to tell from your photos.

Re: Script not running or staying running using rc.local

You need to code full paths for any files used in your python program. Doing that cd command achieves nothing because cycles.py will be spawned/forked as a new process. Write a log from your program either with lots of print statements of with the python syslog module. Here's a banal example of how ...

Just run your sudo apt install ... command, see what happens. It won't hurt.

Try
apt search php.*7
to find the packages you need to install.

Code: Select all

os.system('modprobe w1-gpio')
os.system('modprobe w1-therm')
Start by removing those two lines from your program.

Use the Raspi Config settings to enable 1-wire and it will load the kernel modules you need.

:) You can get an extra 16MB with this in config.txt :)

total_mem=1024
That's no longer needed with the current bootcode/kernel.

Use dmesg , cat /var/log/messages and cat /var/log/syslog commands. You may want to use dmesg | less or less /var/log/messages or less /var/log/syslog to get a scrollable output (use q to quit the less display). You should see a shed load of messages about your network interfaces in those three sour...
