Re: Ethernet Switch HAT

I wonder if there is a HAT for the Raspberry Pi 3 with two or three ethernet ports so the RP can also function as an ethernet switch. You could do it at 10Mbps 10-baseT with a couple of SPI ENC28J60s (the Raspberry will drive 5 SPI devices with no special hardware needed), but it will be astounding...

Re: Allow user to reboot

Hack the GUI code, you don't need a GUI to post a dbus reboot() request.

Re: Allow user to reboot

There's a program in the desktop GUI that lets you do that. You could hack that to work from a script. https://github.com/lxde/lxsession/tree/master/lxsession-logout /* Handler for "clicked" signal on Reboot button. */ static void reboot_clicked(GtkButton * button, HandlerContext * handler_context) ...

Re: Raspbian Autostart Web browser with 2 webpages

Build your own HTML. You can load a remote web page into an IFRAME container.

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<body>

<iframe src="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news">
</iframe>

<iframe src="https://www.raspberrypi.org/">
</iframe>
</body>
</html>
You'll need some CSS to control position and size.

Re: Raspberry PI Zero W + Raspbian Stretch + ttyS0 + GPS Ublox Neo 6M

Unplug your ublox, plug it back in. Then run a dmesg command. You should see a device appear (on my system it's /dev/ttyACM0).

All was fine until people started arguing "that's not what they're using in business and industry" also presents a compelling reason to keep the official operating system as close to Debian as possible. At the same time, if I understand the original idea correctly, the golden age of learning enable...

Re: Mount HD from 'Pi-B' to 'Pi-A' - Unable to find suitable address

On RPi-B create /etc/exports

Code: Select all

/media/tvshows 192.168.1.0/24(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,no_root_squash)
On RPi-A add a line to /etc/fstab

Code: Select all

192.168.1.111:/media/tvshows /media/tvshows nfs defaults,noatime,x-systemd.automount 0 0

If you can still use sudo then run sudo visudo. That sanity checks your sudoers file before saving it.

Install gparted on your Raspberry. Use that to reformat it with a MBR partition table and one single FAT/exFAT/vFAT partition.

Re: How to find the IP of Pi 3 without monitor

Is it wired to your router or are you assuming it's going to connect to your WiFi without any credentials?

If it's wired and booted you should be able to find it with Fing, NMAP or advanced IP scanner (or any other LAN scanner).

Re: How to get udev ignoring GPIO states upon bootup?

GPIO28 and 29 are not externalised on any 40-pin Raspberry Pi. They're only available on a CM/CM3/CM3L and on the RPi1B with the P5 header https://elinux.org/RPi_Low-level_peripherals#P5_header.

Could you give an example of something that doesn't work on Stretch, that does work on Wheezy? What no longer works are the tutorials, learning resources and human knowledge base of how to do things. Moreover, it is difficult to make a case for creating soon-to-be-useless teaching resources when th...

If you have an active 7" touch screen you can't have an active HDMI display. It's one or the other with the standard display drivers.
