Re: Wifi adapter

make && make modules creates the system.map and module.symvers that kernel headers normally contain. All I know is that I get no compilation complaints and no module loading complaints when kernel modules are compiled against a properly prepared source. I do agree that it's a massive PITA, and wish ...

Re: Wifi adapter

Marrs, you can use the reverse process of how you imaged the card in the first place. On a linux machine find the /dev/ node that corresponds to your sdcard ie /dev/sdX (where X is the letter a,b,c, etc depending on your machine configuration - see my note on the mount command below) and then: dd bs...

Re: Wifi adapter

Just for a test, I downloaded the 8192cu.ko that Lorian so kindly provided. Again, the module loads on my kernel, but it will not bring up a wlan0 interface. I can still get a working interface by insmod-ding my 3.0.x driver. I wonder what is different for me that for Lorian. I will provide a few de...

Re: Wifi adapter

Ah Mr Engman, thanks for the fw tip! I hope that by posting the details of how I built the module, people can have a go for themselves. After all, it's meant to be that kind of platform! Anyway, I had some issues with the 3.4.x driver after I tried this again after another kernel update: everything ...

Re: Wifi adapter

Just thought I'd put up my notes (in a more organised form) about how exactly I built the 8192cu.ko module after running rpi-update. Figured someone might find it useful. You have to have the kernel sources (and they have to match the one that you've just updated to, so you need to pull them freshly...

Re: performance

How long overclocked rpi running? On and off 5 days. Had it running for a couple of days straight without any problems Some unstable state? Not that I can tell. It's a early developers release board that's been overclocked and overvolted and that's running a still rapidly evolving distro. You would...

Re: performance

Guys, just wanted to chip in. I've managed to get xfce running pretty well on the rpi using raspbian: 1) I've overclocked: over_voltage=6 arm_freq=1000 core_freq=500 sdram_freq=500 2) Move to a usb stick: I've got the raspbian main partition and swap on a sandisk cruzer 4 GB stick. I've obviously le...

Re: Wifi adapter

wpa_supplicant isn't necessary, just easier for me because I'm taking my pi with me on the go! I think the pisces image doesn't have wireless-tools installed by default? apt-getting that is probably the thing that will get you flying. After that, it's the same module, same firmware, same locations, ...

Re: Wifi adapter

Well, I feel like a right charlie! One of my stanzas in my wpa_supplicant.conf had netwowk={ typed it out on a 1080i screen so couldn't catch the typo. Altered my resolution to 720p and finally I could see it..... So, after all that the 8192cu works on the newer kernel with both the Hexxeh and Pisci...

Re: Wifi adapter

Just a heads-up, after updating to the newest firmware/kernel using rpi-updater, it appears that wpa_supplicant is the issue. If I re-install the kernel module from electrictea on the newer kernel rev, I can get it to work if I put my credentials in /etc/network/interfaces, but I loose the ability t...

Re: Wifi adapter

I have found more than one 8192cu.ko in the /lib/modules/.... subdirs. I deleted them all and removed my compiled module into place, ran depmod -a and now have a module that loads via modprobe (and also on boot through /etc/modules) however I still can't get wlan0 to come up.... I wonder if it's cor...

Re: Wifi adapter

I can report that I managed to use realtek's install.sh to build the kernel module against the mounted kernel source (after a bit of messing around!) but modprobe still gives an exec error. I tried loading the module using insmod instead and the module actually loads (ie shows up with lsmod) but tha...

Re: Wifi adapter

Good stuff, just a heads-up, I used hexxeh's rpi-update tool, and this has resulted in the posted module no longer wanting to load (crap's out with an exec error). I am currently in the process of trying to build the module (have the kernel source mounted due to lack of space and going is slow). If ...

build-essential is not enough. I'm trying to build a realtek wi-fi driver and it needs to kernel-headers to build against. I'm going to have another go at it tonight.....

oops forgot to blacklist old module and include new module: touch /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf echo "blacklist rtl8192cu" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf touch /etc/modules echo "8192cu" >> /etc/modules do this step before the /etc/init.d/networking restart step! Re: Wifi adapter

Hi, I have the wna1000m working with raspbian (hexxeh's r3 image). I've seen other methods, but this is how I did it: Get necessary packages: apt-get install wget unzip wireless-tools wpasupplicant Grab the files (firmware and kernel module): wget http://www.electrictea.co.uk/rpi/8192cu.ko wget ftp:...
