Re: Boat engine monitoring

None of the add-on questions here are specific to a boat in any way and should really just be independent threads. To the most recent poster, you do not want to piggyback on existing sensors, as it will potentially (most likely) interfere with their intended interaction with the existing system. Int...

Re: rapid GPIO read hangs Pi, no error output

Still no ideas on this? My gateways freeze every couple of weeks, and I'm pretty sure this is the culprit.

Re: Controle GPIO from Jquery Mobile page

Why does it need to not exist in the source that is delivered to the client? Well, if you only have dynamically rendered content, it's not an issue. But if you have static content that is secure, it will exist in the source without something server-side to prevent its delivery. If I have a page of ...

Re: Controle GPIO from Jquery Mobile page

My last comment is that there is one place for sure where server-generated html or php should be used to accomplish an important goal - preventing content from reaching the browser. I use php for my authentication for this reason. It's insufficient to hide content - it needs to not exist in the sour...

Yes, I'm a bit too tired/lazy to read your pages fully, I'm all pooped out after a lot of travelling. It's understandable. I need to make a tl;dr version that'...

Re: Controle GPIO from Jquery Mobile page

For the record, django and often flask generate html using Python. But you don't have to generate html with wsgi. I use jquerymobile, a js library of helper functions, and one wsgi app server-side that handles all data requests. I send it a JSON object by POST, like {action:'gettabledata', tablename...

Re: Controle GPIO from Jquery Mobile page

I haven't replaced anything. I have removed php. He was using php to run Python. Now it's JavaScript running Python. I'm not using Python to generate html. I never do. It's just to run code and pass data back and forth server- side. And I disagree (as do most creating realtime apps for the web) rega...

Re: rapid GPIO read hangs Pi, no error output

In the typical use-case, there is time given between loops. I've also seen the test script fail with sleep enabled, and see it succeed with pigpio in two Pis (since my switch above at 4/25 23:45) with no other modification.

And it will probably help to understand what a web server is. It has no effect on what a plain html site will look like. It just delivers text files to your browser, which decides what to do with them.

Re: multithreaded program in Raspi2

With such a general question, google will be more helpful. If you have a specific question, about an application or particular piece of code, this would be a good place to give some more detail about what you are trying to do. There are definitely times where threading does and does not make sense. C

I saw no indication via top. It makes sense though on all accounts. Still - kernel won't warn before it's too late?

Well over a million cycles here. I squirted the pigpio code into my original code and we're running that. I'll have a run on some errands and see how we are when I return.

Re: rapid GPIO read hangs Pi, no error output

I'm at 966s and 310k. I added an ETM immediately after I posted the original code. I don't care about that difference in speed. I only set it to run this fast to make it fail faster. I was getting failures that were taking several hours to days to pop up, which is an unacceptably slow feedback loop....

Re: rapid GPIO read hangs Pi, no error output

Ok, I've got pigpio running on a couple Pis here now .. updates as they come. Joan, is it more common to instantiate the pi object in the global scope, pass it as an argument, or simply instantiate it every time you need it? Is there any overhead incurred with creation of the object? If not, it seem...

Re: rapid GPIO read hangs Pi, no error output

Well, I want RPi.GPIO to work, but more important, I want my code to work. If I can swap out RPi.GPIO for pigpio and make it work, I'll care about why RPi.GPIO doesn't work properly later. Besides, I've been meaning to look at the I2C and SPI functions in there already, since I'm a bit sick of the d...

You want to swap out RPi.GPIO for pigpio calls and see what you see?

Re: rapid GPIO read hangs Pi, no error output

Yes, I just had two Pis go down, running all calls inside the function. Not really sure where to go with this. I could try a previous image and see if I see the same. This cropped up with code that worked perfectly on previous distros ... a reason I resist jumping forward wherever possible.

Re: rapid GPIO read hangs Pi, no error output

Yes, true. Pretty frustrating to get zero output. 270k seems to be a magic range. I got 260 most recently.
