BBC BASIC does not exist other than for RISC OS
This is not true, you can run R.T.Russell's excellent BBC BASIC for SDL under Raspberry Pi OS.

Re: F2FS image available for testing

That may be a bug rather than a feature. I'm yet to look into why it's doing a full scan on each boot. This turned out to be an annoying inconvenience this morning - I had to wait for the Pi to boot from a 64GB card while my daughter was waiting to do some schoolwork - it seemed longer with someone...

Re: Moving Linux Kernel to 5.4

The KMS V3D module for the Pi 4 works OK (including KMS audio) but the issue with the screen blanking (and sometimes it stays blank) is caused by the mouse moving into an accelerated video window (although I have had it happen on some normal GUI windows also) and only appears to occur if the mouse ...

Re: Moving Linux Kernel to 5.4

I've been using the KMS driver without issue for a while. However, yesterday I was trying to get Stellarium running and this required me to go into raspi-config and enable the OpenGL driver. I reverted the changes to config.txt after this to get back to the KMS driver. I'm not entirely sure what it ...

I did do a cursory search but other than the hardware acceleration thing nothing came up. That fixed it, thanks!

Google Maps (and other things) upside-down on Chromium [FIXED]

My Chromium displays various things including Google Maps upside-down (flipped/mirrored), ie, like this:

I can "fix" it by disabling hardware acceleration, but is there a better way?

Re: RPi4 freezes after last (today) update

Just to be sure, I believe the latest image has this firmware: start4.elf fixup4.dat and the previous image had this firmware: start4.elf fixup4.dat (assuming you are not running with start_x=1 or gpu_mem=16) Can you confirm that switching between those two pairs of file (you should always update s...

Re: Shutdown rpi4 in chromium after upgrade raspbian

Same issue here (I posted in another thread as you've seen as I thought it was the kernel initially). I've seen it on Facebook live video and it seems to happen a few seconds to a minute after playing/expanding the video.

Glad it's not just me!

Re: Moving Linux Kernel to 5.4

I updated to 5.4 and it has appeared to be working fine. However, today I was trying to watch some Facebook live video. I hate Facebook but I've watched live streams on there many times recently on the Pi without issue. Since the 5.4 update it works for a bit (a minute maybe), and then the screen go...

Re: F2FS image available for testing

I've been using f2fs on my Pis for years - it's pretty much the first thing I do . Access/boot times always seem to be quicker. I had to set up a new Pi recently but hadn't noticed this test image or I would have given it a try - would have saved me having to migrate manually.

Re: Flatpak, XDG_DATA_DIRS and the desktop menu

I found a solution! However it's not great as it requires manually inserting the entire XDG_DATA_DIRS line. I do think that this is a bug in lxsession though and maybe the Raspberry Pi peeps can investigate and fix? My solution until this is fixed is: open ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/desktop.conf in yo...

Flatpak, XDG_DATA_DIRS and the desktop menu

I've just installed Flatpak to get a newer version of gpodder. It all works fine, bar the following warning and consequently no icons for installed apps on the menu: Note that the directories '/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share' '/home/chris/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share' are not in the search path...

Re: Copying 4GB card to 16GB card

As it's f2fs, your only option is to copy all the data off, repartition it with the new size, then copy it back. There are (unless this has changed recently) no tools to resize f2fs partitions. You should be able to mount it with any recent Linux distribution, but (again, unless this has changed whi...

Re: ext3/4 and SD-card wear leveling

OK you can use fstrim on any of the releases you just need to sudo it... Only issue is it made no difference to my imaged SD card and trimmed no bytes... This is quite bad because it means it didn't release any of the zeros written to the card! Doesn't work here, I just get: fstrim: /: FITRIM ioctl...

Re: ext3/4 and SD-card wear leveling

I've been using F2FS for a while now and it's definitely faster. Whether my SD cards last longer won't be known for a while yet, but it's close to two months now without any sign of any problems. That statement pretty much guaranteed that my SD card would die, and it has. All my previous cards have...

Re: ext3/4 and SD-card wear leveling

Hey, I never heard of f2fs. Might be just what we are looking for. It's very new so no wonder it's not used by Raspian. Sounds like time for an experiment. One could get f2fs working on a PC and use it to bliz SD cards. There's a good how-to in the forum here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/view...

Re: Now TV Box

It uses the same CPU/GPU as the RPi but the firmware only supports 60Hz field rate. That has two potential drawbacks. 2. Even if your TV is OK with 60 Hz video, much of the content from the NOW TV box was shot at 50 Hz. Motion, especially panning shots and scrolling credits, is not smooth. Please c...

Re: ext3/4 and SD-card wear leveling

Just to add to this, if you write a full-size image to an SD card, as far as I can tell the SD card then believes it has no space to do wear-levelling. My first SD card lasted three months. My second (which I'd written an older copy of a complete image of the first SD card to) lasted a week. Whilst ...
