I tried different images from http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/images/ And I can't reproduce the problem. Even with 2013-09-25-wheezy-raspbian. Very strange. Tell please version of installed Image
(2013-xx-yy-wheezy-raspbian) - what date?
Is any messages in:
/var/log/messages
or
/var/log/daemon.log
about ethernet link??? for example (...link beat....)
or other error messages about USB or eth0 ???

Всё нормально с твоей распберри. Посмотри по английскому форуму - таких проблем навалом. Основные проблемы - USB, Сеть. У меня то же самое. Попробовал вернуться на дистрибутив Raspbian который вышел в конце 2012 года - Всё отлично, проблемы пропали!!! Похоже разработчики чего-то накосячили с firmwar...

Всё просто:
setfont /usr/share/consolefonts/CyrKoi-VGA16.psf.gz
или поиграй
sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
если хочешь чтобы оно было покрасивее и устанавливалось при загрузке

Try hotplug usb WiFi adapter when OS have booted.
and if no connection look at /var/log/messages about errors
