Re: OpenCV with new camera module?

sounds very interesting! I will keep my eye out for that.

Am I right in thinking that once the proper V4L driver is ready, the CSI camera will more or less just work in the same way as a webcam currently does on the pi, but will also be getting the maximum hardware speedup via the gpu etc?

Re: New features for raspistill command

It's not possible to do that in separate invocations of raspistill, the camera will always shut down on exiting the program. Not sure of the minimum time between captures, perhaps 3-4 per second at full rez. Please remember that Raspistill is intended as demo software to show how to use the camera-...

Re: New features for raspistill command

overlapping a bit with previous posts but: please could we have: camera warms up ONCE, then lets us get a still quickly (50 millisec?, is it possible to get faster?), so most of the time can be used for image processing and other stuff rather than turning the camera on and waiting? (around 0.8 sec p...

Re: Cannot disable preview

I had a long compile the first time as none of the binaries for any of the userland code were there. After that the make file just whizzed through all the non-camera stuff and takes just a few seconds to build raspistill so my edit compile test cycle is fine now. Are you seeing it rebuild all of th...

Re: Cannot disable preview

I also had success with m1m1's instructions, thanks indeed. a bit off topic, but related: it seems like the raspberry pi is going through quite a long-winded procedure (took about 30 minutes in total) just to make one change in a single .c file. Could anybody point me in the direction of a guide/tut...

Re: OpenCV with new camera module?

The way I'm currently handling it is: call (["raspistill -t 50 -n -o temp.jpg -w 640 -h 480" ], shell=True ) img = cv.LoadImage("temp.jpg") Not sure if there is a more elegant or direct way to do it (except for using stdout to skip the temp file) looks like a reasonable way, in the absence of captu...

OpenCV with new camera module?

I was just wondering if anybody has got opencv working with the new camera module yet? (Particularly with Python?), any examples, any issues?
thanks.

Re: Camera focus distance and macro lenses

Find a pair (or buy a pair - they are very cheap) of +2 or stronger reading glasses, pull one of the lenses out and mount it in front of the camera lens. Hehe, great tip - grabbed some reading glasses Comical Pi with specs on: http://imageshack.us/a/img7/5513/20130516163839.jpg 20cm with reading gl...

close ups (closer ups) with cheap eye glass

got a camera yesterday from cpc, needed to get it working at much shorter distances, which seems to be doable using similar tricks to those used for smartphones. I taped the camera to a cheap eyeglass (jewellers 'loupe'), not sure about the magnification factor, and stuck it to a ruler (I also taped...
